Instead of many toys, kids, as shown by research (read here), need more time spent with their parents.

Andi Eigenmann couldn't agree more. She's just so happy that she and her fiancé Philmar Alipayo are able to shower their kids Lilo, 3, and Koa, almost 2, not just with time but also attention and interaction.

Philmar even makes toys for the little ones, just like the propeller made of coconut leaves (read here), and he lets them participate in the process. Recently, he taught them how to make sand balls, as shared by Andi on her Instagram account.

The actress-turned-island mama described the family activity as "one of the best things about our island life." She explained in the caption of her reels post that "an ordinary beach day is often transformed into a great day of learning or acquiring new skills."

Andi added more info: "It was lowtide and the kids were playing with the soft sand underneath. So Papa taught us how to make sand balls using both the wet mushy gray sand and some dry white sand from the shore. Much like making cement."

She then pointed out in summation: "We've got science, math, arts, phys ed, history & geography all in one."

Why family time is needed every day

Family bonding is categorized as PDF: playtime, downtime, and family time. This is according to a research conducted by Denise Pope, senior lecturer at Stanford University and co-founder of Challenge Success, and her colleagues.

Children, from toddler to teen, need all three every day because they can lead to a significant impact on a child’s capacity to thrive physically, mentally and academically, as reported by Usable Knowledge from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

They’re also closely related to building “crucial life skills that kids need in order to become happy and healthy adults,” said Pope.
