  • It has been more than a year since the mom of three, Sunshine Cruz, became single again. In October 2018, the actress was granted an annulment from her marriage to ex-husband Cesar Montano, after a four-year legal battle.

On Monday, February 10, Sunshine revealed she has forgiven her ex-husband. She's also proud to share that he and their daughters, Angelina, Samantha, and Francheska, are starting to have a good relationship.

"I'm very happy kasi nga nag-reconnect siya with our children," the mom of three said on ABS-CBN's morning talk show Magandang Buhay. "Mas madalas na silang nagkikita ngayon; hindi lang once a year," Sunshine added.

"Syempre sabi ko nga sa mga anak ko siyempre whatever happens, tatay niyo pa rin yan," the actress stressed. Sunshine is also glad her kids are happy and excited whenever they spend time with their dad.

On forgiving her ex-husband, who Sunshine said abused her not just once during the marriage, the actress looked to learning from the experience. "What's important is may mga pinagdaanan man kaming ganyan, mas pinatibay kami, pinalakas ang kalooban namin," she said.

Sunshine didn't want her daughters to think cheating is okay

It's not easy to leave a relationship if there are kids involved. Sunshine admitted she had low-esteem then and thought she was stuck in an abusive marriage, what with three kids and no job at that time. But she decided to leave for her daughters.

The mom of three initially would have just covered for her ex-husband's wrong-doings, forgive him, and keep the marriage and family intact. It was a wakeup call for Sunshine when it was her kids who found out about their dad's extra-marital affairs.

"Kasi kung ako lang, kaya kong pagtakpan, kaya kong patawarin," Sunshine said. But she didn't want her three daughters' to think that cheating is okay in a marriage.

"Ayaw mo naman syempre na yung mga anak mo maging katulad mo. "Baka akalain kasi nila tama... na 'Okay lang, kung ang mommy ko nga tsaka daddy ko ganito, 'pag nag-asawa ako, okay lang pala.' Ayoko," Sunshine stressed.

The actress learned to empower herself and to put her own well-being and that of her daughters future first. "Kahit gaano mo kamahal ang isang tao kailangan talaga priorities. Unahin mo yung feelings, yung future ng mga anak ko, kaysa sa sarili mo," Sunshine said.
