More than 30,000 individuals were displaced from their homes when the Taal volcano erupted on January 12, 2020, with residents of the island and surrounding areas in Batangas and Cavite fleeing to evacuation centers (Click here for a list of affected barangays). And according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, they are still eyeing a total of around 300,000 people for evacuation.
It is time to do our part and help our kababayans. According to Philippine Red Cross Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon, their agency is already open to receiving relief goods including:
- Face masks
- Towels
- Bottled water
- Sleeping mats and blankets
- Easy-open canned goods
- Cup noodles
- Biscuits
- 3-in-1 coffee sachets
- Cleaning materials
- Hygiene kits (toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, sanitary napkins, and diapers)
- Clean and decent clothing
