Global pop star Taylor Swift expressed her shock on Instagram at the news of a brutal attack in northern England, where three girls were fatally stabbed and five other children critically wounded during a dance class for her young fans.
The Incident
The incident occurred on Monday, July 29, at a "Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance workshop" in Southport, north of Liverpool. The event, a summer holiday activity for children aged 6 to 11, was intended to be a safe space for young Swifties to celebrate their idol's music. However, it quickly turned horrific when a man brutally stabbed several attendees.
Merseyside police confirmed on Monday that two girls, aged 6 and 7, were killed, while six other injured children were in critical condition. The next day, a 9-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries, bringing the total number of deaths to three. Two adults were also critically wounded while attempting to protect the young victims.
As of writing, a 17-year-old male is in police custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Merseyside Police said the motive was unclear but they were not also looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbings.
Taylor's Message to the Victims
Taylor Swift took to Instagram to condemn the incident. She wrote, "The horror of yesterday's attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock."
"These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families," she added.

For their part, Taylor Swift's fans, dubbed as Swifties, have raised over £50,000 online to support the families of the victims and the hospital where the injured children are being treated.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the quiet town of Southport on Tuesday to pay his respects to the victims and their families. He described the incident as "horrendous" and emphasized the pain experienced by the victims, stating to the media, "The raw pain and grief they are going through is beyond what most of us can imagine—something I can't imagine as a father myself."
Meanwhile, King Charles III and his wife expressed their deep shock at the tragedy through a statement found on the Royal Family's official social media channels.
