What started as a fun and light interview about career and love life became heavy when Boy Abunda asked Vilma Santos how she feels about her son Luis Manzano's recent alleged involvement in a gas station investment scam.
The host of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda asked, "Bilang ina, gaano kasakit ang maranasan na may pinagdadaanan ang iyong anak na si Luis?"
The Star for All Seasons and mom of two got emotional with the mere mention of her son's name.
"Walang ibang nakakakilala sa anak ko kundi ako, and I know he is such a good person."
"It's not easy, I'm sorry, it's not easy," she said. Vilma admits she didn't want to entertain this issue, and that she is caught off-guard with Abunda's question. "Ang hirap din kasi, it's your job to do good, to show people that you're comfortable, but deep inside you're hurting," she explained.
"I know my son. Ang anak ko tumutulong hindi nangloloko," she affirmed.
In a report by 24 Oras last February 10, the Criminal Intelligence of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued a subpoena to Luis regarding the investigation on alleged estafa that investors of the company Flex Fuel Petroleum Corporation hurled against him and other officials of the company.
Manila Times meanwhile reports that the NBI has set the initial hearing for the investigation on Luis on February 20.
Luis, whose wife Jessy Mendiola has just given birth to their first daughter Rosie in December, has been identified as the chairman of the board of the company. In a report by Inquirer, the position was given to him as one of the guaranties for his investment.
“Bong [Medel] conducted the business in such a way that operational matters were kept away from me,” Luis was quoted in an Inquirer report.
Vilma warns those who are judging her son, "Kaya yung mga nagsasalita at nanghuhusga, dahan-dahan lang kayo. Walang ibang nakakakilala sa anak ko kundi ako, and I know he is such a good person."
''Wag ang anak ko, ako nalang'
When asked what she's praying for, Vilma said, "Asking for guidance not even for myself but for my children. Ako nalang, 'wag ang anak ko, ako nalang."
She also asked for prayers for Luis, "Because I know my son, lalagpas din ito, because I know him, I know my son."
"You will be fine anak, maraming nagdadasal para sa'yo, the truth will prevail. Tumutulong ka anak hindi ka nanloloko. I love you anak, I love you, Lucky," she concluded.
