  • On Tuesday, October 22, 2019, Maynilad Water Services Inc. announced that starting Thursday, October 24, 2019, rotational water service interruptions will be brought back in several parts of Luzon due to the continuous drop of the water level at Angat Dam.

A statement from Maynilad said, “Since raw water allocation from Angat Dam for Metro Manila and adjacent provinces is still at the reduced level of 40 cubic meters per second (cms) — versus the normal allocation of 48 cms — the volume of raw water entering our treatment facilities is short by around 250 million liters per day (MLD).”

Manila Water Co. Inc. has also announced that it might do the same starting Thursday.

According to a statement on the Manila Water website, the rotational water service interruptions would be implemented if the water level at Angat Dam does not improve.

The statement said that water service interruptions “might be necessary to ensure that the still-limited raw water supply will last through next summer and the rest of next year despite Angat Dam being unable to reach its ideal 212-meter level by the end of 2019.”

Inquirer.net reports that the water level at Angat Dam went above 191 meters above sea level (masl) on September 23, 2019 but then started going down, hitting 186.46 masl on October 22.

Customers are now being called to be responsible in stocking up on their water supply and the amount of water they use every day.

Manila Water wrote, “We call and enjoin our customers to use water wisely and responsibly. Please store water when available, and just at enough amount to serve your needs during the hours of service interruption.”
