Actress Mylene Dizon gets real about her parenting style in a recent chat on Bernadette Sembrano's vlog. She doesn't hold back, saying, "I'm a disciplinarian."
But for Mylene, it's not just about setting rules and sticking to routines. Her parenting style is shaped by everything she's been through as a single mom. Raising her sons, Tomas and Lucas, on her own means she has to be both the mom and the dad, and she does her best to be there for them in every way.

"I'm a mother of boys, and I've dated many men," Mylene shared in the vlog. "Hindi naman ganoon kadami, but I've dated men. But I know some men who don't know anything about life or don't know how to navigate their lives because they were too spoiled. I don't want my children to end up that way."
Her discipline is rooted in wanting her teenage sons to grow up with values and resilience. "I am a disciplinarian [because] I want them na maging maayos bago ko sila pakawalan," she explained. "Pag pinakawalan ko sila, gusto ko lahat ng tinuturo ko sa kanila nandiyan pa rin, naririnig pa rin nila ako."
This approach seems to be working. Mylene proudly recalled a moment with her eldest son, who is now studying in Australia. "When I would remind him, my son would tell me 'Nagawa na'. Sabi ko: 'Aba ang galing ah.' Sabi niya: 'Paano naman, naririnig kita? I kind of hammered that in my head, Ma,'" she shared.
For Mylene, Education is the Greatest Gift
Mylene takes pride in giving her sons the best education, which she values far more than material things. She said, "I'm able to provide. I'm able to give my children the best education my money can buy. Ano pang hihingiin ko? Kahit ilang Chanel pa yan... doon ako sa education nila. Tapos bahala na sila sa buhay nila."
"Gigil ako because that's the only thing I can give. Sige, I could give them five million. What are they going to do with that if they don't know what to do with it or how to manage it? At saka 'yun lang talaga ang kaya kong ibigay literally," she added.
Mylene knows her role isn't to give answers, but to be her children's guide: "I keep on equipping myself with tools. I keep putting things in my toolbox and that I'm not going to pass that toolbox to my kids. I'm just going to guide them and let them learn on their own so they can fill their own toolboxes."
"Matatalino ang mga anak ko, mga scholar 'yun... Alam nila 'yung value ng education and alam nila na 'yun lang ang ipapamana ko sa kanila."

The actress is also clear that she doesn't plan to leave her children any property or inheritance. "Anong matututunan nila diyan? They are just going to run this to the ground if they don't have the proper education," she told Bernadette.
In fact, the land where her beach houses in La Union stand is only leased, and she has no plans to buy it. "Unang-una, matanda na ako, 50 na ako eh. Anong gagawin ko [sa property]? Hindi ko naman siya madadala," she said.
"Ang policy ko naman talaga sa pamilya ko, hindi ako magpapamana sa mga anak ko. I want them to make it on their own."
Mylene Dizon has two sons with ex-partner Paolo Paraiso. She's now in a relationship with actor Jason Webb.
