Aside from acting, which has given Mylene Dizon artistic recognition and mass popularity, the 48-year-old actress has equal passion for gardening (read here), fitness, nutrition, and the beach. All four pursuits of hers happen to be interconnected.
"I’m a sensible eater," Mylene tells Smart Parenting at the press conference of her latest movie, Family Matters. "I want to eat things that I can use as fuel or as healing. If I feel low on energy, I will eat something. If I feel constipated, I know what to eat."
Mylene, who grows a lot of her food in her garden, points out, "I don’t want just to taste food, but to make sense...Kahit Christmas, I like eating healthy. I love salads, I love fruits. I don’t drink cola, soda. Just strictly water, and alcohol (laughs)."
The mom of two says she's always been on the slender side, even while pregnant with Tomas and Lucas, who are now 17 and 13, respectively.
"I didn’t even wear maternity clothes. Binubukasan ko lang dito," she recalls, pointing to the zipper of her pants. "Naka-bikini pa nga ako ng nine months."
Additionally, the mom of two loves working out, especially with her longtime partner Jason Webb (read here on their blended family), and then trying other physical activities.
When complimented about looking more fit these days, Mylene says "dahil siguro sa surfing." She then explains, "Because I’ve been surfing the past weeks."
Mylene loves riding the waves so much that she's invested in an Airbnb spot located along the Urbiztondo beach in La Union, which is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines. "Gusto kong mag-retire sa La Union na naka-bikini!" she declares.
"I’ve got a new business venture," the actress-turned-entrepreneur beams. "It’s called Surfstar Elyu. It’s very exciting for me. I’ve been babying that since June. I’m very excited about it. ’Yun lang ang nasa isip ko. Gigising ako ng madaling araw dahil may bago akong naisip na idea about the Airbnb."
