The news about the P299 engagement ring swept social media by storm, and even well-known personalities and celebrities aired their opinions.
Another celebrity shared her personal view on the matter plus her two cents on marriage. “P299 na ring issue… medyo OA. Ako nga wala naman ako engagement ring, tapos wedding rings namin di naman nasusuot kasi hindi kami sanay. Kasal namin, 20k lang (2012),” Yasmien Kurdi said in a Facebook post.
In a separate Facebook post, Starstruck alumna shared, “Kung wala man siyang pera ngayon, bakit di kayo magtulungan dalawa para umasenso ng magkasama.”
The soon-to-be Mom of two continued, “Ang pag-set ng high standard or i-value ang sarili mo ay yung nirerespeto/ ginagalang ka, hindi ka inaabuso, minamahal at sinusuportahan ka.”
This is in response to the P299 engagement story’s original post, which asks, “Ganito lang ba kababa iyung halaga ko sa kanya na hindi man lang niya pinag-ipunan pambili ng ring? Or hindi ko ba dapat i-big deal? Am I too immature to feel this way?”
The Smart Parenting team and parents from Smart Parenting Village also voiced their thoughts on the viral engagement ring story. “Ultimately, it’s not the engagement ring, watch, or house and lot that makes a marriage or partnership successful. It lies in the couple’s continuing choice to love each other and unwavering commitment to each other despite any challenges that come their way,” wrote Em Cruz, Smart Parenting Section Editor.

Yasmien, married for 12 years to herhusband, continued, “Pero dapat ikaw din mismo muna ang gumalang sa sarili mo, kasi kung gagawin mong kabastos-bastos ang sarili mo, eh di paano ka pa rerespetuhin at i-value ng tao?”
She reminds that everything she’s published is her own opinion. She also added some marriage lessons for all married couples. “Kung sa pera naman, pag kinasal na kayo, wag kayo magbilangan dahil ang pera mo, pera niya din at ang pera niya pera mo din 'yun. Tandaan iisa lang kayo.”
In one of her Facebook posts, she also gave a tip to couple about investment and material things, “In my opinion, iinvest niyo nalang pera niyo sa lupa at bahay. Para hindi kayo mamulubi sa renta at hindi puro porma. Laking tipid ng hindi nagrerenta ng bahay. Ang material na bagay nadadala lang yan.”
She then reminded everyone of the standard wedding vow, “For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer,” and said, “Sa hirap at sa ginhawa ika nga, hindi yung sa ginhawa mo lang siya gusto makasama. Masakit yun. Wag ganun.”
But there’s always an exception to the rule, as Yasmien said, “Unless kung nagloko, may luho, bisyo at sugarol. Ibang usapan yun.”
She added another marriage tip that worked for her and her husband for 12 years, “Communication is key to a healthy relationship and marriage. 18 years together with Pangga Rey Soldevilla Jr, 12 years married na! Love you so much!” Yasmien and Rey are expecting their second child this year.
