Known for shopping malls and business centers, Mandaluyong City stands as a highly urbanized city according to the 2020 census. It is dubbed as 'Tiger City,' according to the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project (PCCRP) 2002, a joint project by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center. According to a 2002 article, Mandaluyong has become the "haven of industrial giants and business conglomerates."

Now in the middle of this concrete jungle, where can we find a welcoming and safe space for our dear preschoolers to learn and play?

Cascades International School

Following the Reggio Emilia approach, the school is built like a ‘house’, with child-sized furniture and tools that are made from refurbished materials. The materials/tools are “strategically planned to help the children understand the concepts being taught while fueling their creativity through the unique environment” where the environment is considered as the 'third teacher.'

The school believes that being in the same room gives the children the opportunity to adjust to different types and levels of students in terms of understanding, maturity and capacity to move. The school also believes that this allows them the experience of depending and being depended on. They have programs for children between 16 months of age to 5.11 years old.

Annual tuition fee starts at P250,000 for whole day class (with free lunch and 2 snacks), P175,000 for half-day class, P115,000 for online class, and P135,00 for blended learning.

Additionally, Cascades welcomes children with special needs. These learners will be mainstreamed and be a part of the whole program as long as: a) they have approval from their physician/pediatrician allowing them to be included in a mainstream class, b) they have their own trained caregiver or mirror teacher, c) if the family does not have their own trained caregiver/mirror teacher, the school will help them find a guide teacher with special trainings for their child’s special needs.

The program for children with special needs is called Bahaghari Program, which aims to help and achieve the goals of children with special needs so they may reach their full potential through targeted interventions and collaborative support from special education teachers and other professionals.

Other programs are Hiraya play program (16 months to 4 years old),  Child Minding Program (16 months to 5 years old) and Skill Based Workshop such as Taekwondo, Ballet, Hip Hop, cooking, baking and more. Separate fees apply.

Rainbow Room

Rainbow Room is a progressive learning center that “provides experiential activities to widen the knowledge of the children about the world around them in a developmentally appropriate environment.”

The school has a strong picture in mind of children being able to acquire competencies expected for their age, practice independence, and boost confidence which will steer them towards love for learning. They have programs for children aged 1 year and 8 months up to 5 years old with the following age cut-offs:

LEAD Preschool

Tuition fee (according to its website) starts at a discounted rate of P4,000 monthly for toddlers (10-month program) with initial payment of P8,000 and a discounted monthly fee of P5,900 for Kindergarten with initial payment of P12,700.00. Book a free trial class here.

Clayton Learning Center

Proud of its compassionate and exceptional teachers, Clayton Learning Center is a progressive preschool that respects the uniqueness of each child. The center ensures a healthy and safe environment for holistic development. 

It has programs for crawlers and toddlers, playful pals, pre-Nursery, Nursery 1, Nursery 2, and Kinder. It also has a CuBS program (Clayton's Beginning Support Program) intended for children with special needs whose age is between 2-6 years old. 

Clayton Learning Center has a special education team consisting of qualified special education professionals, Speech therapist, and Occupational therapist to support its play-based framework according to the learner's individualized learning plan.

Mulberry Learning Philippines - Greenhills branch
