What do you do when a birthday celebrant requests for lechon but your wallet says no?
A mom from our Smart Parenting Village proved that money doesn’t define our love for our family. She shared a photo of Daddy’s birthday spread which included barbecue, pancit, lumpia, cake, and the centerpiece lechon—rather, one of their baby twins as cochinillo, complete with apple!
Baby becomes cochinillo centerpiece
In a conversation with Mommy Donnalyn Lacap, she told Smart Parenting that her husband was requesting for cochinillo (a version of lechon using a suckling pig) since last Christmas. New Year came and they still didn’t buy cochinillo because it is too pricey.
This trending lechon ranges from Php7,000 to Php9,000 per piece and for a family with three kids, that’s an essential amount of money. They just had twins, who are five months old, and their eldest is only a year and nine months old.
Tapos nitong nakaraan po nakita ko sa isang group yung lechon baby, monthly birthday po niya. Kaya naisip ko gawin sa birthday ni husband,” says Donnalyn.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Mommy Donnalyn, out of her desire to grant her husband’s birthday wish, became creative and did not let budget constraints affect their celebration. And indeed, it seemed so much better than a cochinillo!
Soft lechon, ireklamo sa seller
Many mommies in the Smart Parenting Village found the family photo funny, creative, and resourceful. One mommy said that it is also a memorable photo for the child once he grows up—definitely a conversation starter once it pops up online.
Members of the group couldn’t help but comment “Pakagat!” and “Napakacute na lechon na yan momsh!”
Others noticed that only one twin was chosen to be the centerpiece and commented, “Sabi siguro nung isang twin ‘Buti nalang hindi ako napagtripan ni Mama’” to which Donnalyn replied that “Super likot kasi ng isang twin, katakot haha”
Another mom asked, “Crispy naman po ba yung mga cochinillo?” Donnalyn answered, “Malambot na po, plano ko nga po ireklamo sa seller.”
