  • The following story came straight from the first-ever Smart Parenting daddy editor-at-large, and the man behind the DadbudPH Facebook community, with over 38,600 member dads as of writing.

Smart Parenting's advocacy, now more than ever, is to include dads in parenting conversations. We want to provide a judgment-free space where dads can voice out their unique points of view, whether majority agrees or not. Smart Parenting remains a platform that's  pro-parents, and that includes dads.

So here we go again, another year of being a Dad, Father’s Day nanaman. Alam niyo, parang birthday natin ‘to sa pagiging erpats. A day that reminds us of this wonderful stage in our lives. #blessed

Hmmm siguro may katotohanan to. But this reminder is not about that. Actually, this may be the most important thing to remember on this day.

“Hoy pare, bawal ka mamatay!” - Dadbud Joey

Morbid ba? Alam niyo, araw-araw pag gumigising ako, I thank God that I am still alive and I am happy that I get to spend another day with my child and my wife. I am a 43-year-old Dad with a two year old son.

Imagine that? By the time my son is 20, 63 na ko.

And gusto pa namin magka isa pang baby kaya napapa-OMG nalang ako pag naiisip ko to. So I am writing this reminder to all Dads to make sure to live a healthy or healthier life, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I gained 20 lbs over the past two years since my baby was born.

'Tuwing nakikita ko yung anak ko ay iniisip ko na sana makita ko pa siyang tumanda, mag-asawa, maging daddy rin.

Sarap eh, kesa mag exercise or tumakbo which I usually do or bike, nakikipag laro nalang ako sa anak ko pag umaga bago mag start ng work. This has been my excuse so yan, two years later, kasing bigat na nya yung na gain ko.

Family will always come first pero how will we love them kung may mangyari satin?

Yung mga panahon na palakasan uminom. Palakasan mag yosi. Lamon dito, lamon don.

5 reminders for dads from your fellow erpats

Health is the most important investment we can have when we become parents at maraming ways to do this.

    1. Meet moderation.

They say that the most important is changing your diet. This doesn’t mean you have to stop eating your favorite Pares or Ramen. There is such a thing as moderation. Actually, this is probably the most important thing to remember, because this applies to almost everything.

Moderate the amount of alcohol you drink. This will also save you from sabon from your esmi.

    2. Let’s get physical.

Exercise or do something physical. Get a bike or walk around the village.

Clock in some steps and make it a routine. Pwede din tong gawin na bonding with the family. And it’s free.

    3. Meditate.

Medidate and practice mental clarity. Alam ko na mahirap to pag parati kang sinisigawan ni misis or pag may makulit na bata pero sobrang importante nito.

Health is not just physical at napaka importante din ng mental health sa panahon ngayon. Find time, singit mo lang miski 10 minutes. Have a spiritual connection.

    4. Have a solid spiritual connection with your faith.

Erpats na tayo at madaming bagay na kailangan natin ng support, especially from the man above. Be thankful everyday and always pray for blessings for the family.

Good health is always part of my list and this is very important. Kailangan healthy lahat.

    5. Love your wife.

Live longer by loving your wife. This is true in more ways than one. Pag mahal mo asawa mo, tahimik ang buhay mo. Pag tahimik ang buhay mo, walang stress.

Kaya for my final reminder so we can live longer, iwasan ang gulo sa bahay. A home that is emotionally sound is a happy home and happiness is the best way to extend our lives.

We need to live longer or as long as we can to spend more Father’s Days with our families. It’s a challenge and like most things in life, the easy way is not always the good one.

Keep on fighting. Hustle harder everyday. Stay happy and always be thankful for another year. Happy Father’s day to all the Dads and please pass on this reminder.
