Parents know how hard it is sometimes to feed their child who is not feeling well, but for Maricris Soriano Hungriano, she knew she had to find a way to ensure that her 4-year-old nephew John Cedrick gets his vegetable fix for the day.
The 29-year-old tita from San Luis, Aurora told Smart Parenting that she didn't expect that her post about her silly little trick would go viral.
"My only intention [was] to make my nephew eat his meal for that day," she said in an interview via Messenger.
Just like how moms intricately prepare their child's baon to look like cute animals and figures, Maricris did the unthinkable to make JC eat her home-cooked adobong sitaw: she presented the meal in a Jollibee box!
Who wouldn't be enticed to eat this, right?
In her now-viral Facebook post last May 2, she wrote, "Darating ang panahon na malalaman mo din na walang adobong sitaw sa Jollibee. Excited kumain tuwang tuwa may papalakpak pa."
What made her post go viral, we believe was the look on JC's face and his response, as told by his Tita: "JC: yehey jollibee sarap, thank you tita."
Maricris explained, "I only want him to eat his food, but during that time he is not feeling well, so I tried to trick him by putting his food on the cardboard box of Jollibee and pretended that I bought it outside just to make him eat his food."

She also uploaded a video version of her post on Tiktok, and it has 1.4 million views as of writing.
"A little fun in preparing [their meal] will also make them appreciate the effort that we put in, even if it is just a simple meal."
She asked for consent from her brother who was working in Baler at that time before posting JC's photos on social media, "I shared to the public how I managed to do a little trick to make my nephew eat his meal."

Maricris says it's important for her to ensure that her nephew is eating healthy and nutritious meals with joy. "Seeing my nephew enjoy his meal brings joy and a big relief to me because I know that my efforts in preparing his food pay off." Sitaw, after all, is a good source of calcium, phosporous, and other vitamins and minerals.

While her post mostly received positive comments from netizens, especially from parents who understand her struggle, she affirmed them, "It's okay to make a little trick to make our little ones enjoy their food. Putting a little fun in preparing will also make them appreciate the effort that we put in, even if it is just a simple meal."
Who knows? Jollibee might just release bento boxes with this design! Better yet, add adobong sitaw in the fast food restaurant's menu soon! Thank us later.
