Favorite Movies And Games, Where They First Met: How Parents Come Up With Baby Names
  • When it comes to baby names, parents always strive to find a unique moniker for their little one. Not only do they want a name that will reflect the hopes they have for their baby, but they also want one that has a special meaning behind it.


    On our parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, moms and dads shared the stories behind their babies’ names. From combining their names, seeking inspiration from their favorite games and movies, to naming their children after the places where they first met, the backstories are truly heartwarming (and funny!).

    Pinoy baby names and the meanings behind them

    Here are some of Pinoy baby names and the history behind it. Who knows, you might be inspired to name your future angel after them:

    Achilles Giannis

    "Achilles is the greatest Greek warrior. Warrior kasi rainbow baby siya, and I gave birth to him through emergency CS. Giannis, which means God is good, and initials A and G kasi ang name ng husband ko ay Ariel and I’m Glaiza.” — Glaiza A.

    Alab at Likha

    “Alab is passion, fuel and light. Isang liwanag na sumisimbolo ng bagong simula at bagong pag-asa. Ang pag alab ay pagbangon, pagkilos at pagmamahal na nag-uumapaw. Ang alab ay pag-ibig na walang hanggan. Likha is to create. Nanaginip ako ng 7 rainbows when I was pregnant with Likha.     “Our son is an answered prayer so I chose the name Elkan (created by God) and Thaddeus (God’s gift). Pero ang gusto ng tatay niya na second name ay Miguel, kaya ayun, naging Elkan Miguel.” — Lhiza A.

    Emmanuel Conrod and Maria Louise

    “Emmanuel Conrad from his lolo’s names. Inalis lang naming ‘yung ‘O’ sa Conrado. Maria Louise naman from her lola’s names. We changed lang to Louise para ‘di naman masyado makaluma kasi Luisa name ni mother-in-law. Way namin ‘yun bilang pagpugay sa kanila na sila ang mga magulang namin.” — Nerissa L.

Iscii came from I, initial ng name ko and since programmer si hubby, we chose the Indian script code for information interchange, prouncounced as IC. Rhyme because I like writing poems and songs.     “I’m Ruby and my husband is Jasper. Both are stones. Since boy si baby, we can’t name him Sapphire kaya Saphiro na lang.” — Ruby G.

    “Sheena means gift or grace from God. Amariah means promised by God. Since I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), we really wanted to have a baby, and we constantly prayed to God to bless us a lovely child.
