  • If you’ve been following Saab Magalona’s journey to motherhood, then you’d know that her path was rife with challenges. She bares it all on SmartParenting.com.ph’s "Mom We Love" feature, saying that while it is still difficult to reveal the full details of her birthing story, she personally believes that things happen for a reason. “It’s only going to be better from here on,” she says.

Her husband, Jim Bacarro, admits they did have a difficult introduction to parenthood. In an emotional Instagram post shared a couple of months after their son Pancho’s birth, Jim shares that he didn’t even have time to grieve the passing of his daughter, Luna (Pancho’s twin) because he had to be strong for his son and his wife.

“I learned what it meant to be a father the moment I held my daughter and had to let her go,” he wrote. “It’s not your typical story of parenthood, but Saab and I are beyond convention.”

The two believe it’s their solid foundation as a couple that helped them get through the storm. “We were already best friends before. Now we know that our best friendship can go past something like that,” Jim says in a previous interview with Smart Parenting.

During her pregnancy, Saab read about parenting extensively. But, because of what they went through, Saab shared she learned to rely on her mother’s instinct. “I’m trying a little bit of everything and figuring out what works best for us,” she says.

Jim, on the other hand, shares that all his parenting fears — changing diapers, caring for Pancho alone, not having enough sleep — turned out to be shallow concerns. “They were nothing to be scared of,” he says.
