Last May 2023, we asked our readers to submit photos capturing the raw and unfiltered moments of motherhood. Out of thousands of entries, we carefully selected the top 100, and then handpicked the top 10. This article is part of a series that delves into the stories behind the 10 winning photos of the Smart Parenting Motherhood 100 photo contest.
As a hobbyist photographer, Carlo G. Zamora makes it a point to take photos of his family.
His favorite subject is his mother, Clara G. Zamora, who is 91 years old.
"My family is the first thing on my mind to be a subject of my photographs, especially my mother. Almost every morning, I document her day-to-day activities, and sometimes I ask her if I can take a portrait of her whenever I see good light."
A Mother's Endless Love
Carlo shared with Smart Parenting how his mother served as a beacon of strength and devotion to their family.
"My mother has been a dedicated housewife throughout her life as a mother. She raised seven of us together with my father, who joined our creator 10 years ago. Despite her age, she never stops caring for us. She always prepares our food, clothes, and dishes while also looking after her grandchildren."
Unfortunately, Carlo reveals, his mother is now suffering from dementia. "It is now our responsibility to take care of her, to look after her, to prepare her food and clothes, and to return the love she gave us," he shares.
When Smart Parenting called for entries for the Motherhood 100 photo contest, Carlo sent five beautiful portraits of his mom, which show the raw and unfiltered moments of motherhood.
"The photo I entered in the Motherhood 100 Photo Contest was taken at Casa Del Sol in Amadeo, Cavite. It was a celebration of her 86th birthday, and we rented the place overnight. As a photographer in our family, my camera is always with me. The photo is one of the many shots I took that day."
He clarified that the photo was not posed, saying, "My mother is always doing this chore whenever or wherever we go."
Carlo added, "I saw the light bulbs, I saw the sunlight from the windows, and I saw my mother preparing the table for our breakfast. For me, it was a great scene, with good composition and lighting, so I took the shot."
