Saab Magalona has fondest momories of her late dad Francis Magalona. She then bursts into laughter when asked about the parenting advice she got from the well-loved and sorely missed rapper, musician, actor, and TV host.
"Para kasi talaga siyang..." says Saab in an interview she and her husband Jim Bacarro recently gave to the editors and writers of Summit Media, including SmartParenting.com.ph, for the Summit Sandwich Sessions.
"Every time we’d ask for permission, he’d always say, ‘Ask your mom.’ He never gave me advice...’Yun nga, just make your kids laugh. That’s what I’d take from him and what I experienced with him."ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Saab adds that her dad "wasn't a disciplinarian," and her best memories of him involve a lot of fun moments. That's what she's trying to do with and for her and Jim's kids Pancho and Vito.
She points out, "I want to have that with my kids and I want them to remember me as a fun mom. 'I want to be with mom and I miss mom.' I want to have that, so yeah, just make your kids laugh."
Francis M passed away on March 6, 2009, or long before Saab had her two sons, Pancho in February 2018 and Vito in September 2019. He will be always be known as the Master Rapper, who also starred in mostly comedy and some drama movies, and co-hosted the noontime show Eat Bulaga.
