Being a parent sure is rewarding. But if we're being honest, you'll know that raising tiny humans isn't all rainbows and unicorns. Contrary to what your social media feed might be showing you, parenting isn't always picture-perfect nor "Instagrammable."

One mom on Twitter initiated a thread to push exactly this point—life with kids can be messy, but that's okay. Parents may not have time to clean every nook and spot of the house every time, and that's also okay.

What Life With Toddlers Really Looks Like

Having enough of staged parenting photos that may cause unnecessary pressure to other moms and dads, Twitter user @allkellz solicited raw photos from parents that show their current situation.

She started the photos from their own bathroom. "Here's my bathroom, and it's been like this for days. I just have no energy to clean up. It's not too bad, but it feels better knowing others aren't perfect too."

She adds, "I'm tired of unrealistic expectations to keep a spotless home, home-cooked meals every day & somehow entertain kids."

Soon, many parents heeded her call and shared their parenting reality at home. Sharing a cluttered space in her house, one mom said, "I have arrived to make everyone else feel better about their homes."

Another mom showed the price many parents probably have to pay to achieve at least five minutes of silence from their toddler.

And then there's the snack galore on the floor situation!

Tips To Make Home Space Kid-Friendly

Smart Parenting's Editor-At-Large Rica Peralejo is also an advocate of keeping it real when it comes to showing what life with young ones really is like.

In our exclusive tour around her newly-renovated house, Rica says, "Don't judge me kung feeling niyo magulo 'yung living room namin because this is really who I am. When I make house tours, I want it as unfiltered as it can be."

"Ito talaga ang totoong buhay 'pag may dalawa kang magugulong anak," Rica candidly adds, referring to her two sons, Philip and Manu.

Knowing that mess is inevitable, Rica prioritizes to make their living space as kid-friendly as possible. Below are some of her tips on how she achieved it.

1. Choose child-friendly furniture sizes.

"You have to think of the sizes of your furniture if they actually can be reached by your children."

2. Invest in stepladders or stools.

"Invest in really good stepladders or stools na pwedeng akyatan ng mga bata. Why? Because naturally, if you have step stools or ladders at home. They can also enable the children to do things on their own."

Rica says it helps promote independence among kids, "Not that you don't want to help them, but you actually just wanna enable them na they don't really need to ask you for each and everything they want to do."  

3. Choose easy to clean furniture.

"Choose furnitures that you actually are okay na madumihan or mamamantsahan. Or 'yung madaling linisan." 

She adds, "Choose your furniture well. Ano ba 'yung mga pieces of furniture that would accommodate and include your children more."
