Remember Alanis Morissette? The Singer Is Not Shy About Showing the Beauty of Breastfeeding

Remember Alanis Morissette? Those who grew up in the '90s will never forget the Canadian singer’s album Jagged Little Pill where her songs like “Isn’t It Ironic” and “You Oughta Know” became anthems for many teens at the time.

Today, Alanis has turned that album into a rock musical that will play in a Broadway theater no less in November 2019, a mean feat for someone who recently gave birth to her third child with husband, rapper Mario Treadway, last August 8. And despite the busy schedule (or because of it), she is still finding time to advocate breastfeeding. 

A few days after announcing the birth of Winter Mercy Morissette-Treadway, the award-winning artist posted an intimate photo of her infant son breastfeeding, revealing in the caption that nursing is not always ‘easy peasy.’

In the post, she tagged several organizations that are dedicated to de-stigmatizing breastfeeding, reports PEOPLE.com. These groups include the 4th Trimester Bodies Project (@stopcensoringmotherhood), The Badass Breastfeeder (@thebadassbreastfeeder), and Normalize Breastfeeding (@normalizebreastfeedingofficial).

In the past, Alanis has shared many pictures of her breastfeeding her first two children, Ever Imre, now 8 years old, and Onyx Solace, 3 years old.

Alanis also uploaded a photo of her and baby Winter having some skin-on-skin contact. She added the hashtags #connection and #foundationfortherestofyourlife to the adorable snapshot.

In a feature on SELF Magazine’s digital issue, Alanis opened up about the difficult journey she went through to being a mother. She revealed that she experienced multiple miscarriages between having her first two kids, saying she “felt so much grief and fear. I chased and prayed for pregnancy and learned so much about my body and biochemistry and immunity and gynecology through the process. It was a torturous learning and loss-filled and persevering process.”

The singer also talked about being pregnant at 45 years old in a video on the same website. “I have to tell you, I’m one of those women that actually really enjoy being pregnant,” she shared. “I think one of the biggest parts of it is that I feel just sort of innately purposeful and that even when I’m sitting still…I’m still being productive, I’m still building a human being, which boggles my mind.”
