Sam Pinto and her husband Anthony Semerad's unica hija Mia Aya turned one year old on September 1, 2022. But the actress and beach resort owner still can't forget the time she was breastfeeding her little girl.
"Whenever she’d latch before, I'd bite onto a towel," Sam recalled at the Cetaphil skincare brand's Tricks and Treats for Baby’s Health Start media event held on October 27, 2022 in Makati City. Sam and fellow celebrity mom Solenn Heussaff, who's heavy with her second child, are brand ambassadors.
Sam then made some straining sound to illustrate how "sobrang sakit" breastfeeding had been for her. (Read here on why it hurts, according to a group of doulas.)
"It was so painful," she later on told Smart Parenting in an interview at the event. "When people talk about it, it’s painful. Pero di naman nila sinabing to the extent na dudugo ang nipples mo."
Mama's Baby Mia
Sam related that Baby Mia only experienced latching on to her for two months because their entire household, except for the then newborn, got sick with COVID-19. This was around November 2021, when the infection rate was still high.
"So siya lang ’yung in-isolate namin," Sam said of the baby. "So we hired a nurse to take care of her. Of course we had to function in the house, we had to clean..."
She remembered being in pain while her baby was in isolation: "Two months pa lang s’ya. Buti na lang may CCTV. I was always checking. Two months, ano pa ba ang ginagawa?" (Read here how Mia's nursery room looks like.)
She added, "There’s a nurse who comes to the house na naka-PPE. There’s a day shift and there’s a night shift. It was 14 days of that."
Now that Sam's baby is already a toddler, she said she's in awe of Mia's development: "Every day there's something new. It's amazing to watch!"
These days, she has observed her daughter started expressing dissent by shaking the head or not giving in to requests. She pointed out, "I like it that they express it now than just accept it."
Sam got real when asked about giving Mia a sibling: "Not any time soon. Honestly, Anthony wants a boy. Maybe in two years. Ako ’yung, I’m not ready yet. I feel that now pa lang I’m getting myself back. I’m feeling myself again.
"Before the baby, it’s just, me, me, me! Biglang may baby na, now it’s all about her. But now I feel like, okay, I’m being me again. Like doing events again. This is just my second event since the pandemic. I already forgot the feeling."
