Meet Your Baby At Two Months: Tiny Buds Are Growing Into Fingers And Toes! It's the perfect time to start talking to your baby in the womb.by R.M. Mauhay .
It’s your second month of pregnancy and by now, you are probably experiencing the early signs. On our parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, moms share that common symptoms of pregnancy at 2 months include morning sickness, indigestion, and constipation.
“Two months pregnant po ako and grabe ang morning sickness ko — as in all-day sickness! Nakakaramdam din po ako ng hirap matunawan ng food kaya feel ko masusuka nanaman ako,” shares one mom.
Your fetus at 2 months
Hang in there, momma! As your body changes, so does the tiny fetus in your tummy. At 2 months, your baby’s organs are already starting to develop. Here are other things you’ll need to know about their growth.
Facial and other physical features start to form
During the first month of your pregnancy, the embryo’s only semblance to a human would be two dots that would soon grow eyes. Quite frankly, it looks like a tadpole at this point.
Once the second month of pregnancy comes in, your baby’s facial features would continue to develop. According to WebMD, tiny ears would start from little folds of skin on each side of the head. The limbs would also start sprouting, along with the fingers and toes.
Planned Parenthood describes the appearance of your baby as it starts to develop eyes, eyelids, and an upper lip. The arms would also be bent by the elbow, and the fingers and toes are still webbed.
You’d be fascinated to know that even though the X and Y chromosomes (the genes that identify the sex) can be detected right at conception, embryos don’t develop their sex organs until the 7th or 8th week. According to Planned Parenthood, “If a gene triggers the development of testes, the embryo develops as a biological male. If there isn’t a trigger, the embryo develops ovaries and becomes biologically female.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
As the second month comes to an end, your baby should be about 2.54cm (1 inch) long and weighs around 9.45g (1/3 ounce). Its head is not proportioned, with the head being the biggest part.
At 2 months, your baby develops important organs
During this period, the neural tube of your baby is being composed. This includes the brain, spinal cord, as well as other neural tissue of the central nervous system.
Since the brain is already developing, this might be the perfect time to start play music and talk to your baby! Research shows that conversing with your baby while they are still in the womb stimulates their brain activity.
Playing music to your baby has also been proven as a great way to stimulate your baby in the uterus. Nothing beats soothing your baby than your (and your partner’s) voice, though.
Can you feel your baby move at 2 months?
Not just yet, but it is around this time that the digestive tract and sensory organs begin to develop, and the cartilage is slowly being replaced by bones. That means that your baby will begin to move at this point! It’s just that you cannot feel it yet because your baby is too small for you to feel movements.CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
Since the reason you won’t be able to feel your baby move at 2 months is because it is so small, there’s a possibility that you will feel the first kick even before your 5th month. The baby just has to grow big enough for you to feel it.
Your baby will graduate from an embryo to a fetus now
The living thing inside you has been called by many different names even before being an embryo, each name representing your baby’s development at a certain stage. The end of your second month of pregnancy marks the graduation of your baby from an embryo to an actual fetus.
Since the baby you will be giving birth to in seven or eight more months has been through so much before finally meeting you, here’s an idea for a name: Eunice. It’s origin is Greek, meaning ‘good victory’. Or Even! It means winner or gift.
