PHP 800 And Up: Parents Recommend Tracking Devices For Young Kids To Wear To School And Out

The pandemic restrictions have finally loosened up every where and parents are excited to book that much awaited international trip, to bring kids outside, and to let them experience face-to-face classes. 

But one thing that wasn't a problem for the last few years is a challenge once again: our children’s safety. 

How can we make sure that our kids stay safe, even though they just spent over two years in lockdown and huge crowds and new places might be somewhat scary?

Parents over at Smart Parenting Village, a community of over 90,000 parents, shared their tried and tested safety and tracking devices, which worked for them. 

Here are the top safety and tracking devices recommended and tested by parents:

1. Apple Airtag

The most popular safety and tracking device among the discussion thread is the Apple Airtag. Originally designed for personal belongings like keys and backpack, parents discovered hacks so they can use it to track their kids’ locations. 

Jaja Delas Alas said, “Yes, nasa ID ng daughter ko, nakasabit.”

“It works po (Apple Airtag). Suot ng daughter ko as a watch for school and places na madaming tao. We also have one for stroller. Useful ito nung nag Disneyland kami since we have to leave the stroller outside every ride. Pwede din siya sa luggage,” Maridol Tiffany shared.

Ellesig Castillo added, “I am using it on my kiddo, especially pag lalabas kami. He has it like a watch and he knows na kapag lalabas kami dapat suot niya yun.”

Other parents also said that to ensure safety, the Apple Airtag must be placed somewhere that is not too visible to others, “Ok na ok. Pero mas okay pag necklace yung case para hindi kita. Mag-notify din 'pag hindi mo na kasama at makikita po talaga kung asan siya,” Sharinne Burlaza said. 

Christy Malabanan-Pineda added, “Yes, got 1 for my child, sa belt namin nilalagay para hindi naka-expose.”

Cath Garcia shared a discount hack: If you have multiple kids or if you also want to track your things, buy in bulk . She said, “We bought yung 4 pack para maka-mura, 3 toddlers are using it, saka 18 yr old kong stepson. Makukulit kasi mga toddler namin lalo si bunso ko,bigla nawawala sa mall.” 

Warning though, as per a mom who’s currently using an Airtag, “Airtags don’t have GPS. It works kapag connected sa nearby iPhone/iPad. You will know the location but not in realtime,” Cristina Cyrus Cassandra shared. Others said that Apple Airtags only share real-time location within 10-m radius, or whenever another Apple device is nearby. 

A mom also shared her somewhat ‘lost child’ story over the holidays and Apple Airtag saved the day. “For us it’s very useful. Last Dec 24 my son got lost in Burnham Park in Baguio and found him in 10 mins with the help of Airtag. My sister also put those on her luggages when traveling haha for easy tracking of her stuff since uso ang nawawalan ng luggage some countries,” Michelle Quiday-Aglangao shared.

2. Aolon Smart Watch

Based on its product description, the Aolon Smart Watch can carry a sim card, therefore it can receive messages and calls. It can be pretty reliable as it has GPS and can send real-time location. 

They Vine Diyan Ah shared, “Nabasa ko before na need nito na may nearby Apple sa paligid since not sure ako kung Apple mga cellphone ng teacher, nag-Aolon na lang ako na smart watch. Okay naman up until now, nakakatawag pa sakin anak ko kapag uwian na at since malakas naman signal ng Gomo dito samin, accurate naman yung location niya minsan naka-sound guardian din ako at nag-reremote photo kung uwian na ba, minsan kasi nag-eenjoy ng laro.”

3. SinoTrack

Because Apple Airtag cannot share real-time location without nearby Apple device, parents offered another. Kylie Terrobs shared, “If want niyo po GPS tsaka real-time ang tracking, try SinoTrack po. Yung samin ginamitan namin ng Gomo sim. Then nakalagay sa ID lace ng sister ko.”

Katrina Reyes-Benito also shared that they’re using SinoTrack, “I’m using a wireless tracker. Lifespan is about half a day. It's wireless, it's GSM. May feature via text or call to locate if internet isn't available. Basta may load yung sim na naka-insert.” She also said that this tracking device will give you your kid’s exact location, even without internet, with just one text message.

4. Taihom Smart Watch

Kathleen Kate Herrera added another smart watch in the suggestions, the Taihom Smart Watch. She said, “I just bought it in Lazada. The interface is really easy for my kid, and might be useful to other parents.” 

She also added its difference from other safety devices, “The main difference from Apple Airtag is hindi siya naka-piggyback sa other gadgets and wala na talagang signal. Cons is need to charge always, mabilis masira, kelangan ng load. But maramig good feautres like video call, pinpoint location, regular call and SOS.”

Aside from teaching kids about basic safety rules, safety and tracking devices are additional precautions to make sure our kids are safe. There’s always unforeseen circumstances, and there’s no harm in adding these extra protection for our kids.
