The happiest place on earth is always a magical place for kids and parents. The shows, fireworks, rides, parades, not to mention seeing Mickey and Minnie Mouse in person, dancing and singing, in Disneyland is surely a core memory for families. For younger kids, watching Elsa and Moana walk the Main Street is like a dream come true.

As parents, bringing our kids to Disneyland to experience this is our own dream. But it can be a little intimidating because we always hear that everything is expensive in Disneyland.

Do we need to spend our life savings in order to bring our kids to Disneyland?

Thanks to parents who have recently gone, the answer is definitely not. Smart Parenting rounded up some *super* helpful tipid tips and hacks for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Here’s a few tips we gathered around from other parents who went to Disneyland:

Tipid hacks for Hong Kong Disneyland

1. Book your tickets online.

Planning ahead is always a tipid tip in itself Disneyland or not. For Disneyland tickets in particular, search ahead because it is much cheaper.

April Espela suggested, “Mag-canvass ng mas murang ticket.” Hong Kong Disneyland Resort tickets are available on the official website and in Klook. Sometimes, Klook offers special discounts tied up with credit cards or other partners. As of this writing, it is partnered with the Hong Kong Tourism Board and offered a HK$100 cash voucher for any eligible hotels/activities.

On the official Hong Kong Disneyland Resort website, the 2-day park ticket is on sale at only P5,523 per adult with a lot of freebies!

2. Bring a water tumbler.

One of the ‘scariest’ expenses at Disneyland is the beverages and food. This was the top tipid tip from other parents, “Price for drinking water is very expensive so we took note of all the water stations around the park (check the map) and refilled our water containers throughout the trip,” Joey Gabie Chee said.

And if you have kids in tow, one bottle of water is definitely not enough!

“May water fountains sa loob ng Disneyland” Jamie Lagman-Ramos shared.

We tried locating the water fountains at the official Disneyland app and found them! Just look for the water fountain logo:

3. Buy meal vouchers online.

Again, the meals in Disneyland (and maybe in all theme parks) can be expensive. Each meal is around HK$140 (P980), and that’s already one of the cheapest. It can be pretty overwhelming especially if you’ll be traveling with the whole family and with kids who are always hungry.

Marielena Cruzat said, “Avail set food ng Disneyland sa Klook. Malaki ang serving nila, good for 2 na.”

We searched Klook for the dining vouchers, and one voucher is worth P1,448, inclusive of lunch and dinner worth $HK140 each, and a free frozen lollipop or popcorn. That’s a lot of savings!

Another helpful suggestion from Joey Gabie Chee, “Have lunch at the Royal Banquet Hall and order steak. It’s a bit pricey but the serving is very big!” And this one we already tried, and yes, the serving is really big!

4. Download the Hongkong Disneyland App.

Aside from saving some bucks, planning which attractions and shows to prioritize is also a tipid hack. This way, we can make sure that walking under the sun for an entire day s is worth it!

The official app shows the whole map of the park, estimated waiting times, where to eat, where to park your strollers, and other helpful information.

It even has directions on how to go back to the city via MTR, bus or taxi.

5. Go to Disneyland via train (MTR).

Taxis are expensive abroad and one way to lessen expenses is to know the way around public transportation. Hong Kong’s train system, called MTR, has a direct line going into Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Bonus: The trains are designed with Mickey Mouse logos, preparing you for the magic ahead.

Honey Grace Rodriguez Ang also shared a tip, “Buy octopus card (for paying the bus), pwede niyo naman magamit sa future or pambayad. Kung maaaral ang bus nila, kung may pupuntahan kayo na kaya magbus, dun na lang para mas mura. Also, choose an AirBnB na malapit sa MTR stations, mas mura than hotels.”

6. Buy merch outside Disneyland.

We often see celebrities and influencers pose with cute Mickey Mouse headbands while in Disneyland, and while we also want to do that, those headbands are quite expensive if bought inside Disneyland.

Shey Dolor-Esperida shared, “Yung headband na Mickey Mouse, dito [sa Pilipinas] na bumili, P50 or less na sa Shopee kesa dun bibili.”

Of course, we also want a matchy-matchy outfit, too. But those can be expensive when bought inside Disneyland. April Espela said, “Pwede bumili ng shirt sa Uniqlo. We got asked saan namin nabili yung Mickey Mouse shirt kasi hindi nila nakita sa mga merch dun.”

We hope that these tips help in planning your family’s Disneyland trip without breaking the bank and with lots of magic, fun and excitement instead!

See you in Disneyland!
