Parang May Sariling Bahay-Bahayan! How A Cramped Room Was Transformed To A Loft-Style PlayhouseThis kid has her own "bahay-bahayan" bedroom!by Angela Baylon .
Giving only the best of everything to their children is every parent's goal. For mom Alyssa Marie Rasay, that includes giving her daughter a space in their house where she can both rest and play comfortably.
Just like many of the recent home renovation stories featured on Smart Parenting, Alyssa's bedroom project for her 3-year-old daughter Chantel was brought about during the height of the pandemic when many of us were stuck at home.
Before the renovation, the vacant room was a cramped storage space with a bulky bunkbed. With the help of a contractor, they were able to turn it into Chantel's dream bedroom, which also doubles as a playhouse thanks to its loft-style design.

Luckily, Alyssa has a friend whose partner is an experienced contractor, so they need not look for a contrator they can trust for the project. For the overall look of the room, the 26-year-old mom wanted to create a space that's easy on the eye, has ample storage, and promotes the benefits of play for her daughter.
The contractor ticked all the boxes on Alyssa's checklist with how the room turned out. It's as if Chantal has her own "bahay-bahayan" in her bedroom!

'Playhouse' Bedroom Renovation Cost And Challenges
When asked what challenges they faced during the renovation, Alyssa said one of them was getting stuff out of the cramped room. "'Yung unang part ay paghahakot ng mga gamit, sobrang dami at mabibigat pa 'yung iba," she shared.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
They weren't also able to go around and canvass where to possibly buy cheaper materials and went for the nearby hardware store near their house in Caloocan or source it from a mall which could be more pricey.
All in all, the renovation did not come cheap and cost around Php80,000. The room really underwent a complete revamp since they had to work on the walls, ceilings, electrical wirings, and even the flooring.
Alyssa also did not want to cut costs at the expense of her daughter's safety since they are building a loft bed. She said, "Worth it din dahil matibay po 'yung pagkakagawa nila sa bunk bed.
Although it set them back some hefty five figures, for Alyssa, it was all worth it. For her, no price can match her daughter's happiness.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The mom also acknowledges the importance of interactive play to her daughter's development.
Giving her toddler her own space to manage, Alyssa believes it could promote sense of responsibility to her daughter.
Tips When Doing Room Renovation for Kids
When Alyssa's friend, Abigail Malana shared the before and after photos of the bedroom project she and her partner Ariel Batronel undertook, the kapitbahays from the Facebook page, Home Buddies we're nothing but impressed!
We asked Abigail some tips for other parents who are also planning to renovate their kid's room. Abigail says there are five things to consider.
- Design and Plan
- Trusted Contractor/ Skilled Worker
- Willing to compromise
Abigail explains to us, "For sure sa mga nagpa-plan magpa renovate meron silang design/ inspiration or plan.
"Most importantly, maghanap ng mapagkakatiwalaan na contractor or skilled worker.
Then mag-compromise kayo both para sa magandang outcome."
