  • In August 2020, we wrote about the “practical” bouquets husbands have given their wives.

Many of the bouquets were made from food like malunggay, bulaklak ng kalabasa, cauliflower, even Yakult. (There's even pinakbet bouquet!)

That same month, we also wrote about Philmar Alipayo who was apparently ahead of the trend. He gave pechay to his better half, Andi Eigenmann, long before vegetable bouquets were in vogue it seems. (You can read here the story.

He shared that photo on Instagram with the caption: “Ato first pic! Remember I give you pichay instead of a flower. Mingaw nako sa imo mahal ko.”

Translation: “Our first pic! Remember I gave you pechay instead of a flower. I miss you, my love.”

Andi reshared the photo on her Instagram this Valentine's Day.

Well, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan may have seen them and was, er, inspired. His Valentine’s Day present for the missus, none other than Sharon Cuneta, was a vegetable bouquet from the senator's own Sweet Spring Country Farm.

“Eto na naman ang neighbor kong asawa ko. Balentayms gip niya gulay!” Sharon wrote on Instagram.

The bouquet’s “centerpiece” was the cauliflower and puso ng saging. It was then surrounded by calamansi and sili. We wondered about the weird veggie mix, and it turned out to be a "code" based on the letter that came with the gift.

Sharon shared a snapshot of the senator's love letter. Cue the aw, shucks, cheesiness!

    "To my deareast sweetheart, Sharon,

"Cauliflower - kakaibang bulaklak...mabubusog ka sa forever na pag-ibig.

"Sili panggising - dahil umuusok pa rin sa anghang ang ating pag-ibig after all these years. Pag-ibig sa isa't isa at sa pamilya.

"Calamansi at kamias - dahi may asim sarap pa ang ating pagmamahalan (he then drew a smiley face)

"Puso ng saging - dahil ang puso ko belongs to you and no other."

Sharon would have probably been happy with the love letter, but her husband knows her well and followed it up with a beautiful bouquet of roses with a love letter meant to make his wife blush.

As Sharon wrote, "Nakakaloka lang ang sinulat na naman sa card!!! Hahaha."

Sen. Pangilinan wrote, "Happy Valentine's Day, Sweetheart! '...And when I kiss your lips I know our love's for keeps.' Haha! I love you always, always, always. Forever, forever, forever."

    Stop it, you two.
