Need An Extra PC? Rent To Own A Desktop From This Group Of Freelance Moms

  • Moms who would like to transition into an online job should know that one of the most important tools they’ll need is a desktop computer or laptop that meets their employer’s minimum technical requirements. But these can be quite costly, especially for moms who are just starting out.

For this reason, Maria Korina “MK” Bertulfo, founder of Filipina Homebased (FH) Moms, an organization that aims to assist and support Filipina mothers in their freelancing journey, came up with the “computer rent-to-own program,” to help those who want to start their homebased careers. With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting everyone’s livelihood, she and her team decided to partner with different brands so that moms can avail of a desktop and pay it on an installment basis. Their goal: To deliver over 500 desktop units to kababayans looking for online jobs so that they can earn at home amid the pandemic.

Since they are all veteran freelancers, they made sure that the desktops would meet the specifications or “specs” that clients look for. “We can assure that the personal computers (PC) provided under the program are above the required or ideal specs when it comes to homebased jobs,” shares FHMoms Corporate Relations Executive Veronica Britanico in an email interview with SmartParenting.com.ph.

The best part: the program is open to anyone in need of a desktop. “Everyone can apply. Those who have existing jobs, homebased jobs, and aspiring to work from home are welcome to take advantage of the program,” Veronica adds.

Those who’d like to apply can fill out the form at www.bit.ly/computerrenttoown. Since this is on a cash installment basis, FHMoms has a strict screening process to ensure that those who will avail of the rent-to-own program will be able to fulfill the payment scheme. This is also to avoid scams since all transactions will be done online.

    The requirements are as follows:

    • Valid I.D. showing your full name and address
    • Proof of billing (if under another person’s name, you are required to submit an authorization letter with their contact number)
    • Proof of income / business / online job
    • House and workstation video tour (talk and let them know why you want to own a desktop)
    • Character references and guarantor
    • Agree to the rental process and terms and conditions

FHMoms will check the application within 15 days and will contact the applicant if they passed the screening process or not. They will get an email with the payment details and contract. After settling the initial payment, they can expect final confirmation within 3 days and delivery of the unit within 15 days.

How much will the desktop cost?

According to Veronica, the feedback has mostly been positive from the moms who've availed of the desktop units, just like mommy Denden, seen above.

Each desktop costs Php32,840 on a 12-month installment. Applicants are required to settle an advance payment of Php7,760 for the first month and a Php5,000 cash in plus the delivery fee. Then, they can pay Php2,760 for the first six months and Php1,880 for the remaining months.

You can also pay in full at a discounted rate of Php25,300. Each desktop comes with a 6-month remote tech support and 6-month warranty for parts and repair.

For now, the only mode of payment is cash deposits to ROG, which supplies FHMoms with the units. Delivery within Metro Manila will be handled by Aja Deliveries. Orders outside Metro Manila will be handled by J&T Express.

FHMoms launched the program in April 2020 and last quarter, the group was able to deliver 25 units in total, consisting of 14 rent-to-own and 11 full payments. “Patunay na kahit ano mang krisis ang dumating, meron at meron pa ring opportunity at tulong na darating,” shares MK in one of her posts in the FHMoms Facebook group.
