Kendra, Scarlet and Gavin Kramer Started This Fruit and Vegetable Garden in Their New Home

Almost four months since their move, #TeamKramer has settled nicely into their new mansion, a four-storey abode complete with a cinema, playroom, a classroom for their homeschooling kids, a baby room for the new addition they are praying for, a “man cave” for the man of the house, Doug Kramer, a humongous walk-in closet for his wife, actress Chesca Kramer, and the helpers’ quarters that includes a lounging area and four bedrooms for their yayas.

Much has also been written about their lanai and infinity pool that has a magnificent view of the sunset. Indeed, watching the home tour is almost like a dream!

One of the perks of living in a house is having your own private outdoor area where kids can freely roam around — something one can rarely enjoy when living in a condo unit. A study revealed that kids who grew up in a place where there was hardly any green space were up to 55% more likely to develop mental health disorders as adults. The greenery, and the simple act of being exposed to nature, lays the foundation for better health, both physical and mental.  

“Nothing makes me happier than seeing my kids enjoying their childhood. Sweaty, happy kids enjoying the outdoors just like when we were kids,” Chesca posted previously.

And for people who have a green thumb or are simply fond of plants, even a small patch of soil can eventually be turned into a lush garden.

Recently, Chesca put the spotlight on one area of their new house that doesn’t get as much attention: their garden, which now has fruit-bearing plants. Maintaining a garden may be tedious, but it’s practical — why buy calamansi, papaya, sili, or other vegetables at the supermarket when you can grow them easily in your yard?   

“Fresh produce from our little ‘grow-cery’ area.@clairkendrakins enjoying fresh cold calamansi juice from one of the calamansi trees that she and her siblings helped plant,” Chesca captioned a series of photos of her kids Kendra, 10, Scarlet, 7, and Gavin, 6, by the garden. 

“We also have pechay and chinese kang-kong that Kendra planted. Aside from that we have more growing in our little fruit and vegetable garden. All sprouting beautifully to the delight of the children,” she added.

Moreover, gardening as a family activity is something Chesca values for the lessons she can learn — and teach her kids — about hard work and responsibility. And now, they are literally seeing the fruits of their labor!

“Kids are seeing the value of their labor and experiencing the beauty of gardening. To see their seeds growing to it becoming the vegetables and fruits that go straight to our table.

“They also see the purpose of why they are doing it, the responsibility that comes with it and the reward when they take on the task and stay committed to it.

“Such a simple and basic thing that does so much to the soul, mind and overall health of a person. Just look at their fulfilled smiles.”
