In a deeply personal post, she shared her experience after giving birth to her second son, Axl, recalling how childbirth complications, extreme fatigue, and emotional stress almost broke her.
"I could not walk for about three months without my lower body shaking," Kylie wrote. "Headaches, nerve pain, over fatigue... all the stress, anxiety, and body pain absolutely took a toll on my body."
She also struggled with breastfeeding the second time around and admitted that the lack of a strong support system made things even harder.
"I never thought I would recover," she said. "I never thought I would get past that dark place."
Kylie then added, "Mahirap i-explain sa mga hindi nakakaintindi ng binat. ANYWAY, THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT ME. I had savings, I had the ability to support myself. But not all moms have this. So I am urging you to please push for paid maternity leave and postpartum depression awareness."
She ended her post with a powerful reminder: "Mothers deserve time to rest their bodies and minds after childbirth. They deserve to be able to take care of themselves as well as their children."
Understanding Binat
In her post, Kylie mentioned binat, a term many Filipino moms know well but few understand fully.
In this Smart Parenting article, childbirth duola Ros Padua of the Pinay Doula Collective and Dr. Maynila Domingo, M.D., obstetrician-gynecologist at ManilaMed, explained what binat truly means.
"Ang binat usually ina-associate siya [sa] anything na naramdaman na hindi maganda ng nanay lalo na dun sa una o pangalawang linggo pagkatapos manganak," shared doula Ros.
Dr. Domingo added that binat is unique to Filipino culture. While there's no direct medical term for it, binat refers to unpleasant symptoms a new mother may experience after childbirth, often linked to postpartum complications. These may include postpartum hemorrhage, infections, emotional exhaustion, or the effects of inadequate rest.
Although not all symptoms are formally recognized as medical conditions, they can still affect a new mother's recovery and overall well-being. Kylie Padilla's openness sheds light on the silent struggles many women face, reminding us that postpartum care is not just a personal journey. It is a collective responsibility that deserves more awareness and support.
