Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez's stellar performance landed her in the international pageant's Top 5 on December 13, 2021. While she was not able to snag the crown, she still brought pride to the country and her family.
Before bowing out of the competition, Beatrice did not just impress with her stunning walk and oozing confidence. She also touched the hearts of many when she got the chance to honor her mother on the prestigious stage.
When Miss Universe 2021 host Steve Harvey called her to join the Top 10 candidates, Beatrice's video played where she put the spotlight on her mom who took care of her and her sister as a single parent.
For the 26-year-old Cebuana beauty queen, her mom is a walking example of what it means to be an empowered woman.
"My role model for women empowerment is my mom. She raised me and my sister, she was a single mom."
She adds that her mom "showed me that the challenges you can go through in life, you will be able to overcome it as long as you are determined and that you are responsible for your actions."
In an earlier introduction video for the pageant, Beatrice opened up about their struggles as a family. As a single parent, her mom "had a hard time managing our household." To help her family, Beatrice and her sister worked hard to become athletic scholars to pay for their studies from high school to college.
"Being a part of the volleyball varsity team is not just something that I take as an achievement. But it is something that really changed my life for the better because I was able to help my mom and I was able to make her proud," she shared.
