“So… I just found out I have thyroid cancer. 💔”
Nicole Hyala announced on her Instagram account, along with a clip on her radio show.
“At ang sakit at ang saklap sa katotohanan na ang sabi ako daw po ay mayroong thyroid cancer. Una anak, sunod asawa, ngayon ako na,” the DJ, host, and influencer said.
She further revealed that she found out about it from the biopsy results she had done around two weeks ago and that she will undergo surgery, a thyroidectomy, in July.
In 2021, Nicole’s daughter, Princess, was hospitalized and stayed in the ICU for three weeks due to brain inflammation.
Nicole’s caption reflects her hopeful mindset. She wrote, “I’ve faced battles that broke me, seasons that nearly crushed me. But here I am still standing, still smiling, still kumikinang. :) I’ve survived storms that could’ve drowned me and this is just another wave I know I can ride, with God beside me.”
“This diagnosis wasn’t part of my plan, but it’s part of God’s. And I know He’s walked with me through deeper valleys before, so I trust He’ll walk me through this too.”
“Thyroid cancer. You’re just another name and I have faith in the One who’s above all names. So let’s do this, thyroid cancer. You picked the wrong girl. Mali ka ng kinalaban. Wag ako,” Nicole went on.
Fans of the radio personality posted comments of support, with one saying, “Grabe ang pagka positive mo Ms. Nicole. I salute you. Stay strong. God is with you.” Another one shared his similar experience, writing, “Same here…I had surgery first before finding out it was malignant. I’m okay now, one year after. Consistent check-ups and continuous medication helped. God will not give us [a] battles we cannot handle. Hugs for you 🫶🏻”

The Mayo Clinic describes thyroid cancer as a growth of cells that starts in the thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland at the base of the neck. It’s responsible for producing hormones that regulate heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight. Symptoms are not evident at the onset. Signs and symptoms as it grows are swelling in the next, voice changes, and difficulty in swallowing.
Most thyroid cancers grow slowly, while others can be aggressive. Most are curable with the proper treatment.
Following her diagnosis and future cancer battle, Nicole maintains a positive outlook: “So aalagaan din naman ako ni Lord tungkol dito. Difficult and scary and crazy world that we live in. And it's important that we continue to have faith. Faith means trusting, even if the storm is raging.”
Get well soon, Nicole!
