Paulo Avelino is not letting the distance and the time difference affect his relationship with his 11-year-old son, Aki. He recently shared how gaming bridges the distance between him and his son who's currently based in the U.S.
Paulo is co-parenting Aki with his ex-girlfriend, LJ Reyes, who recently moved to New York with her two kids. In a press conference for the second season of his Kapamilya series, Marry Me, Marry You, Paulo was asked how he maintains his relationship with his son despite being away from each other.
Aside from the regular phone calls, Paulo says their common interest in gaming has been helpful in keeping their father-son bond intact.
"Phone calls every now and then kung kailan siya free. Since baligtad ang oras, minsan masyadong late na para makausap ko siya, pero usually ang bonding namin ay gaming rin talaga," Paulo answered.
"Lumaking mahilig din sa games 'yung anak ko. Siguro nagmana sa tatay," he adds.
Paulo has been known to keep things private when it comes to his personal life but he was glad to share that his son is continuing his studies abroad.
"Sa ngayon ay nasa New York din siya... Happy naman siya. Nag-aaral siya doon ngayon," Paulo said.
LJ and Paulo in constant communication for Aki
It's been around two months since LJ decided to be with her family in New York after her separation from Paolo Contis. In a previous interview with talk show host, Boy Abunda, LJ shared that since the move, Paulo reached out to her and showed a willingness to extend help if needed for Aki's sake.
"He's (Paulo) been there for Aki naman. We've been in touch especially siya 'yung nag-message sa akin...Nagsabi lang siya na parang, 'I know you've been going through a very difficult time.' Siyempre ang iniisip niya rin si Aki. If anything daw that I need when it comes to Aki, I can always tell him," LJ told Boy.
In the same interview, LJ says she has not carved out any definite plans for the future, at least for now. Only time will tell whether or not she and her two kids, Aki and Summer, will stay in the U.S. for good or go back to the Philippines. In the meantime, Paulo and Aki have gaming to help their bond level up.
