On October 2, Delfin’s birthday, the singer posted a throwback photo with her dad, taken during her 2016 concert, The Great Unknown Unplugged. She captioned it simply, “Ang aking habambuhay. Maligayang kaarawan po tatay Delfin ko.”

This is the first family-related post that Sarah has made since her marriage to Matteo Guidicelli in February 2020. The secret wedding shocked many as even her parents were not aware that it would be taking place.

According to reports, a heated confrontation took place at the reception between the newlyweds and Sarah’s mother, Divine Geronimo, who was not invited to the celebration. Meanwhile, it was reported that Delfin arrived at the reception after receiving a call from his wife.

Despite Sarah’s many years in showbiz, the Geronimos have mostly been keeping their life private and away from prying eyes. But in October 2019, fans were able to witness Sarah and Delfin’s close relationship through their guesting in the ABS-CBN talk show, Magandang Buhay.

In the interview, Delfin revealed that he was Sarah’s first vocal coach — he saw her potential when she was still a toddler and has been honing her singing skills since then. Sarah also revealed that she and her sisters are “daddy’s girls.”

While Delfin denied that Sarah is his favorite child, he shared that he has a special way of getting back to his daughter’s good graces whenever they have a misunderstanding. He would cook her favorite adobong isda as his “panabla,” or his way of showing affection (and apology).

He also shared a special message for his daughter then, including his hopes for Sarah when she finally has a family of her own. “Kailangan maging matatag tayo. Kaming mga magulang, gusto naming na lahat ng mga anak namin, mapunta sa magagandang buhay na patutunguhan.”

He adds, “Naging anak rin tayo, at nagiging magulang tayo. Siya rin, magiging magulang, magkakaroon din siya ng mga anak sa magiging pamilya niya… Hindi puwedeng ipagpalit ang pamilya basta-basta.”

Sarah also made a promise to her father during the interview, tearing up as she said, “Sa daddy ko, sa buong family ko, sa mama ko, know that I will be forever grateful at talagang ‘yung pagmamahal — kahit sino, kahit ano ang dumating sa buhay ko, hindi magbabago ‘yung pagmamahal at pag-respeto ko sa mga magulang ko, sa mga kapatid ko, dahil pamilya ko sila,” she said.

Since Sarah and Matteo’s wedding, there has been no word of a reconciliation between the couple and Sarah’s parents. We can only hope that this birthday greeting is a sign of good things to come!
