The rainy season may be approaching but it still feels like summer with the scorching heat and humidity. At times like these, swimming pools — like those inflatable ones you can buy online — can be godsend to beat the heat, but not everyone has the budget for it.
If you’re feeling crafty, you may be inspired to build your own swimming pool. Yes, it’s possible! Take your cue from Lolo Wilfredo Mangubat, 57, who took on a huge quarantine project: transforming their former pigpen into a pool for his apos.
In an interview with SmartParenting.com.ph, his daughter, Blessie Mangubat tells us that because Wilfredo is a construction worker, it was easy for him to plan the whole thing out. It took him six days to finish the DIY project and it only cost him Php4,000.
“Nakagaan na lang po sa gastos naming na may kulungan na po kami ng baboy kaya medyo buo na po siya. Dinagdagan na lang po at ‘yung ibang materyales po na ginamit hindi na rin po naming binili, gaya ng buhangin at bakal po,” Blessie explains, adding that bulk of the cost went to the cement and paint.

While Blessie says their pool is “low-budget,” the reaction of Wilfredo’s apos is priceless, as you can see in the video above. And that makes all his hard work worth it. Truly, grandparents can’t help but spoil their grandchildren. #SanaAll have a lolo like Wilfredo!
