Part of being "really ready" to have a baby, Meryll Soriano says she and partner Joem Bascon worked on their relationship.
"It’s a sweet surprise that we reconciliated," the actress and vlogger discloses in an exclusive interview with SmartParenting.com.ph's video series, Dibdibang Usapan.
Meryll goes on recalling, "Eleven years ago naging kami and, we were different people. I was a very different person back then. And talagang meron kaming…" She leaves her sentence hanging until she bursts out laughing.
"Ako, it’s really my fault," she shrieks. "Inaamin ko na, on the record. Marami pa akong gustong gawin sa buhay ko, and I wasn’t ready to have a serious relationship."
But once the reunited couple found out they're having a baby, just when the COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020, they sorted out their differences and adjusted to each other's quirks.
So by the time their son Gideon, nicknamed Gido, arrived later that year, in December, they were prepared to take their relationship to another level.
"As parents, parang chill na kami do’n," says Meryll, who also has a 14-year-old son named Eli. "Parang hindi na s’ya issue. Parang okay na, parents na muna tayo.
"’Yung individuality namin ay very, you know, kumbaga grounded kasi natutunan namin s’ya quickly, in a fast paced style dahil nga sa pandemic. So we’re really just focused as parents.
"It’s very intimate for us, kami ni Joem, ’yung pag-aalaga sa baby. Talagang we had to figure it out on our own."
