Feeling Mom Guilt? Solenn Heussaff Says 'Remember To Take Some Time Off For Yourself'

Being a mother is probably one of the most joyous moments of their lives for those who chose it, but it gets spoiled by mom guilt once in a while. Celebrity mom Solenn Heussaff is no stranger to this feeling.

Solenn was recently busy attending Milan Fashion Week 2022. But while she spends time immersed in her passion for fashion, the actress and artist could not escape mom guilt for being miles away from her daughter Thylane "Tili" Katana.

Breaking her high-fashion photos streak, Solenn uploaded a throwback photo of her while carrying Tili. "Though this short trip was a lot of fun, I cant wait to come home to you [Tili]!"

While a part of her feels guilty for working away from her daughter, Solenn quickly notes the importance of having "me time" among mothers.

She shares, "Mum guilt can be real, but remember to always take some time off for yourself sometimes!" 

We could not agree more, Solenn! Moms may not always admit it but fulfilling the role of a mother can be too demanding at times that they tend to forget about their own needs. As a result, many moms start feeling guilty when they allot time apart from child-rearing.

Solenn's reminder on the importance of me-time among mothers got a tacit thumbs up in the comment section.

One commenter beautifully encapsulates why mothers should say goodbye to mom guilt and hello to me times.

Her comment read: "The more guilt, the more you deserve it. Me times make better Moms."

Another said, "Yes, "me" time is important for mums. Safe travels!"

Soon after wrapping up her fashion week attendance, Solenn flew back home. On a video she uploaded to her Instagram stories on February 27, 2022, she finally embraced Tili again.

In the video, Tili was seen rushing towards her mother as Solenn opened her arms wide before hugging her unica hija. Awee! The two really missed each other.

How to escape mom guilt?

Being guilty of mom guilt is a valid feeling. The pressure of keeping up with images of ideal parents on social media also doesn't help, but it doesn't mean that moms should remain captive to this trap.

Here are some helpful tips to stop the mom guilt on its tracks. 

1. Talk it out 

Like Solenn, letting the feeling out there helps. But it should not stop with just admitting that you're feeling mom guilt. Talk to someone who you know could help you deconstruct your feelings. It can be your spouse, your best friend, your mom, or a therapist.

2. Don't let negativity weigh you down

Life is full of little disappointments. But instead of dwelling on negative feelings towards the past, turn your focus on the improvements you can do in the future. 

3. Be kind

Especially to yourself. As we always say here in Smart Parenting, self-care is not selfish. The only way you can care for your family better is if you are well and healthy yourself.
