How Iya Villania Got Primo to Drink Medicine Without a Power StruggleWe’re dubbing the mom-of-two’s genius tip as “the gummy vitamin medicine hack!”by Rachel Perez .
Caring for your little one becomes a little more challenging when he is sick, yet mommy duty doesn’t stop just because of it. Moms just do the best they can to help her kids feel better.
One aspect of any mother’s “nurse-back-to-health” game plan is to ensure that her sick child takes his medicines as prescribed by the doctor and does so on time. But all moms know that getting toddlers to drink medicine, even if they’re just flavored vitamins, can erupt into a power struggle quickly.
But there is hope! If Iya Villania and firstborn son Primo could do it, any moms could do it, too!
In an Instagram video that the TV host posted, her toddler, who is turning 3 years old next month, drank his liquid medicine from a measuring cup without a fuss — and almost independently! “We’ve come a long way! From what was once a struggle to now this,” Iya proudly wrote. The mom of two is not the only one happy about it. Primo gave her a high-five and clapped his hands in celebration of his achievement.

Primo is currently recovering from hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). The mom of two believes her firstborn got it when she allowed him to play in an enclosed play area while he was still recovering from cough and cold. (Read more about HFMD in English or Filipino/Tagalog.)
Kids who contacted HFMD may need to take medicine for fever, which is one of its symptoms. Primo is getting better now, but he still needs to strengthen his immune system. He did such an excellent job at drinking his medicine that many of Iya’s celebrity parent friends, like Ryan Agoncillo and Saab Magalona, applauded him.
One mom, who disclosed that she’s also having the same issue, asked Iya in the comments: “How did you do that?”
“It used to be a struggle also! Headlock and all!” Iya assured the mom. She then noticed that giving Primo his meds became more manageable when she gives him options and involves her son in making decisions. For example, Iya would ask her son: Do you want to take your meds via a cup or syringe?
“And then I found the gummy vitamins and thought it would make medicine and vitamins yummy and fun which worked!” Iya exclaimed. “Having a gummy vitamin after his meds have definitely made this habit an enjoyable one,” Iya shared. “Now, he looks forward to the gummy after he’s had his medicine,” she added. Yes, Primo takes a gummy to mask the unpleasant taste of medicine. It might be candy, sure, but it’s vitamins, too! Even with’ Iya’s best efforts to contain the HFMD virus, her younger son Leon contracted it, too. While his big brother is on the road to wellness, Leon’s HFMD, which usually lasts a week, is just starting. And Iya said her younger son has it worse compared to her firstborn. That means no sleepless nights and more clinginess and crying. Awww.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Good thing Kuya Primo is supportive of his little bro. When Leon was crying, Primo assured him, “I’m just here... I’m just here.”
Get well soon, Primo and Leon!
