Iza Calzado On Her Pregnancy: 'I Can Finally Be The Mother I Needed When I Was Younger'

Motherhood looks different for everyone. Every new mom hopes to be the best for their child, but sometimes, it just won't happen. The journey to becoming a good mom is what matters.

In the first episode of The She Talks Asia Podcast recorded a few months back, the five founders Lynn Pinugu, Sarah Meier Heredia, Victoria Herrera, Iza Calzado, and Bianca Gonzalez talked about their life updates. What made the episode extra special was towards the end, when Iza shared her life update and announced her pregnancy.

She said, "When I was reading the brief last night, 'Talk about what you're going through.' How can I not talk about this?!"

Iza said she was happy because she asked her husband Ben Wintle's permission to announce their pregnancy, and he was okay with it.

She added, "And we just received the NIPT results (Non-invasive prenatal testing) last night. Thank you, Lord! Low-risk lahat!"

The 40-year-old actress revealed, "I really feel that the past five years, especially the past 2 years post-COVID, I feel it has really been an awakening after I got out of the hospital having survived a really bad alpha strain of COVID, it's been an awakening of the mind, body, and spirit."

"I'm thinking I can finally be the mother I needed when I was younger. And for my mom's sake, also be the mother she wanted to be."

She continued, "What I didn't realize was everything was preparing me for something. I'm turning 40 in a few weeks, and now I fully understand what I've been preparing for."

That's when Iza broke the news to them, "So are you guys ready to be Titas?"

Iza shared, during her meditation before their recording, she had a release about what kind of mother she would become.

"I had a vision of actually giving my child a dark chocolate raspberry treat, I'm thinking I can finally be the mother I needed when I was younger. And for my mom's sake, also be the mother she wanted to be."

"I wanted a career, I wanted to go to New York end of the year and I was deadset. And then this happened, and I immediately accepted it with grace."

It was also in an interview on She Talks Asia when Iza first opened up about her late mother Mary Ann Ussher. Her mom suffered from a mental illness, and died by suicide in 2001.

Surrendering to God's plan

Bianca meanwhile assured Iza that she'll be an amazing mother.

Iza replied, "Thank you. I'm accepting that. No self-doubt. I cannot doubt myself anymore, I have to power through. It's here, it's real."

Lynn said she has known about Iza's pregnancy for quite sometime because she has also been trying to get pregnant.

"I'm so excited that this is happening to her at this time because she's never been more prepared," she said.

Iza admits, "It's mixed emotions, we have been going through quite a lot. This was not something I was praying for, I'll be honest. I wanted a career, I wanted to go to New York end of the year and I was deadset. And then this happened, and I immediately accepted it with grace. I said, this is what God wants, and as always, God's plans are greater than mine. Always. So just surrender to that."

Lynn said, she is excited to see how motherhood would change Iza as it did to Bianca. "I've known Bianca for quite some time and I really saw how motherhood changed her in the best way possible and to know that something like that will happen to Iza also."

Recently, Iza revealed her food cravings, and netizens say, she might be having a girl.
