Babybond Ultrasound Center Review: This Made My Simple Gender Reveal Party Possible

Full Disclosure: I'm not one who would trouble myself nor my family and friends to organize a gender reveal party. As a mom of almost two kids, I know there are far more important things to spend our brain cells, time, and money on than finding out the gender of my unborn baby in a grandiose way. But in the end, it sure feels amazing to have one, and I would do it again if I'm blessed with another child in the future!

Organizing a simple gender reveal party

For context, I am currently 21 weeks pregnant with my second child and was scheduled to have my Congenital Anomaly Scan (CAS) at a hospital in Quezon City last Saturday, May 11. When I shared this news with my family, we thought of having an intimate gender reveal party immediately afterward since it was also our send-off dinner for our balikbayan uncle, who would be flying out on Saturday night.

Unfortunately, on the day of the scheduled scan, we were informed that the procedure will be moved to another day. My initial reaction was, of course, to cancel the party. But preparations had been made: the restaurant was booked, a no-mess gender reveal balloon supplier had been contacted, and relatives had been invited.

So, the party had to happen. Good thing it was my balikbayan uncle who thought that maybe I could find out my child's gender by going to an ultrasound center in a nearby mall. My CAS, which is a very important procedure, will be done on the new schedule with my OB-Gyne's preferred sonologist.

Since we were staying near SM Mall of Asia (MoA) at that time, I searched online for ultrasound centers based in MoA and found one that had just recently opened. They were also big on advertising their gender reveal packages, which I was thankful for since I was very shy to ask the nurses in the hospital where I was supposed to have my CAS to cooperate with all the gender reveal party preps.

Coming from the hospital in Quezon City, my husband and I headed to Babybond Ultrasound Center in SM Mall of Asia for a fetal biometry around 2 PM. This procedure enables you to find out basic information about your baby, like the estimated fetal size, age, and weight. It is, of course, done by a certified sonologist. Since I'm already 21 weeks pregnant, the baby's gender can also be seen in this test.

Babybond Ultrasound Center has a pioneer branch in SM North EDSA, while the MoA branch just opened in April this year. This may be why there were not a lot of clients yet, so when we walked in, we were immediately accommodated by the friendly staff. They just asked me to fill out a green sheet of paper with my details, and my husband and I were called inside the clinic for the test. Yes, companions are allowed inside the ultrasound clinic. It was our first time to see our baby, so it was a magical moment for us. My last ultrasound was when I was 9 weeks pregnant.

The staff informed the sonologist that we got the gender reveal package: it’s fetal biometry that comes with a sealed envelope and a small decorated box that contains the gender of my baby.

So during the scan, the sonologist showed us our baby's face and body, and then the screen was turned off when it was time for her to check the baby's gender. She was very warm and welcoming and wouldn’t give us clues, which made us very excited to know.

After the scan, we were asked to come back to get the results and the gender reveal box after an hour and a half. The party was scheduled for 4 PM, so we just had enough time!

At 3:30 PM, we came back and paid for the service, which cost us Php 2300 for the fetal biometry, and an additional Php 500 for the gender reveal box. We just had to cancel the no-mess balloon since we already had the gender reveal box!

At 4 PM, our immediate family members gathered in a restaurant 15 minutes away from MoA, wearing either pink or blue outfits based on their guesses. The gender reveal party was happening, thanks to Babybond Ultrasound Center. After our early dinner, it was time to open the box, and we decided that my four-year-old daughter would open it.

Although it was just a tiny cardboard box and not as grand as a balloon or a pinata, what mattered was what was inside. At the count of three, we opened the box, and the moment I saw the blue confetti and the words "It's a boy!" we were all shocked! The box comes with a framed photo of my baby's ultrasound scan, with a built-in magnet!

There was no dry eye in the room because we, especially my daughter, had all been praying to finally have a baby boy. It was a magical experience for everyone, and a day we will always remember.
