One of the trending topics in our online community, Smart Parenting Village, is family planning or birth control. This includes bilateral tubal ligation (BTL), which is more commonly called tubal ligation, or simply ligation.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says ligation is "very effective." The procedure, as explained by Dr. Sybil Bravo, an ob-gyn, in an earlier interview with SmartParenting.com.ph, is a "permanent surgical form of female sterilization. It's considered "very safe" when performed by "trained physician," who ties the patient's two fallopian tubes, so egg cells won't be able to travel to the uterus.
Ligated mom share their experiences
Many of the mommy members of our online community say they had ligation in their 30s, but there's one who got ligated at age 25. A lot of them have three children. They were either advised by their doctors for health reasons or decided by themselves because of economic concerns.

One mom says, "Ligated at 35 years old after 2 miscarriages both raspa, and 2 succesful pregnancies both CS (now 11 years old and 4 years old). Mahal ako magbuntis dahil ang daming meds. I have APAS / Repro immune disorder, and always kabado kung matutuloy ba ang pregnancy. Okay na focus on 2 kids and not worry about a complicated pregnancy."
Another mom recalls wanting to have ligation right after giving birth to her second child. But her husband talked her out of it, so they ended up with one more child, then she finally got ligated.
That comment elicited a reaction from a fellow member, saying she made her husband sign the consent form while she was in the labor room.
Thus, she got this reaction from a sympathetic member: "Dapat kasi babae lang nagde-decide ng ganyan kahit married.
Other moms talked about how they felt after getting ligated.
Many moms also suggest to those asking information on ligation to always seek medical advice. Kung high risk na kyo to have another pregnancy better tama po dlawa and kausapin nyo po OB doctor for her medical advice."
