If your husband has been asking for your permission to pursue a new hobby, host and podcaster Bianca Gonzalez shared some tips that can help you decide.
In an exclusive interview with Smart Parenting, the mom of two revealed how her husband, former professional basketball player JC Intal, got her approval for his new hobby of going on motorcycle rides.
JC is a member of the PBA Motoclub (Philippine Bikers Amazing Motorcycle Club) along with JJ Helterbrand, Rico Maierhofer, and Marc Pingris, and others. They started a moto-vlogging channel in 2020, while basketball games were suspended due to the COVID- 19 pandemic.
Bianca has been a very supportive wife to JC and refers to herself as a "fanwifey," especially when JC transitioned from being an athlete to an artist. She mentioned that JC sought her permission, and she has often been asked, "Buti pinayagan mo 'yung asawa mo magmotor?"
Initially, Bianca had concerns about the safety of the hobby. However, she eventually supported JC and shared some considerations she had to make.

How Bianca Gonzalez supported her husband's new hobby
She shared some considerations she had to make before supporting JC in this new endeavor.
1. Get to know your husband's circle of friends.
Bianca said yes to JC's hobby after getting to know the people he spends time with in the moto-vlogging group. She mentioned, "The more I saw who he was with within the group, the more I trusted them." Since it's something her husband enjoys and involves trustworthy individuals, she gave her approval.
2. Ensure the hobby doesn't interfere with household expenses.
If your husband takes his motoclub seriously, he might invest in costly accessories and gear. However, Bianca considered that the budget for the motorcycle did not come from their regular monthly expenses. He saved up for it separately.
"Alam ko naman na kahit he gets into different hobbies, at the end of the day, family is still his priority." --Bianca Gonzalez
She added, "As long as it doesn't interfere with more pressing expenses and makes him happy, he gets to spend time with his friends, he gets to spend his alone time. My husband also likes his alone time."
3. Your husband's priority should be family.
Regardless of the hobby your husband pursues, as long as he prioritizes the family, it's all good.
"I think at the end of it all, my husband kasi has also always been supportive of me being a career woman, like, super. Parang kahit ang dami-dami kong gustong gawin sa buhay because he knows at the end of the day my priority is still the family, our kids," Bianca maintained.
"Alam ko naman na kahit he gets into different hobbies, at the end of the day, family is still his priority and if family needs him at a certain time, like me, I would do all I can to rearrange everything."
Wives, do something for yourselves, too
At the same time, Bianca also reminds wives to prioritize their own well-being and engage in activities that make them feel stronger and take care of themselves. For Bianca, her me-time involves practicing Pilates and following a skincare routine.
She acknowledges that motherhood is not always easy for everyone, and she started finding time for herself as her kids grew older. Bianca credits her husband and the support system at home for enabling her to gradually take time for herself and focus on her fitness -- without the guilt.
She concluded, "Hopefully every mom could find those little pockets within their day to make themselves feel strong and definitely, ma-fi-figure out din nila yun."
Bianca admits she is her husband's 'bwisitspiration.' Here's why.
