Ellen Adarna's Clapback To A Netizen Is A Reminder To Keep A Sense Of Humor In Marriage

Since the start of November 2022, Ellen Adarna and Derek Ramsay have been traveling to South America to mark their first wedding anniversary. (Read here on their heartfelt wedding vows.)

Their first stop was Peru, where they visited the famed Machu Picchu historical site and other tourist spots. They also "got married again" in what looks like an indigenous Peruvian ceremony.

But early in the celebrity couple's trip, Derek was hit by altitude sickness. It occurs, according to Cleveland Clinic, "if you travel to a high elevation without letting your body adjust to the new altitude."

Symptoms of altitude sickness include headache and nausea, which usually subside when you return to a lower elevation. But severe cases of this ailment can be life threatening.

Ellen shared a bit of what happened to her husband in an Instagram post showing a photo of Derek using an oxygen tank and other snaps taken from their trip so far.

"The situation and Views," she wrote in the caption with a rolling on the floor laughing emoji. She added that, in hashtag form, altitude sickness "aint so bad" because "ganda ng view eh." She put three face-with-tears-of-joy emoji and tagged her husband.

Ellen then thanked Nasser Qazi (with IG handle @coach_nasser_bali), the head coach at Kami No Ken self-improvement training program based in Bali, Indonesia.

"The zen breathing and meditations worked," she said. "I was not hit with the altitude sickness at all!

Derek replied in the comments section with several laughing emojis. Other commenters offered concern and inquiries on what happened to the actor and athlete.

But one commenter criticized Ellen for what the commenter perceived to be Ellen's reaction to and handling of the situation: "Unbelievable [crying and shocked emojis]. I understand that maybe that’s her human nature, but what is your husband gone or going through is not a joke.

"How can you laugh on top of your lungs while your husband is suffering and chasing his breathe. Oh Bless Him."

Ellen's reply: "He was laughing at himself too so whats your problem?! Are u the one taking care of him? No. God bless you and your judgements."

Apparently, the critical commenter missed Ellen's humor, which Derek appreciated by replying good naturedly to his wife's post. In one of his last posts about Peru, he asked her, "Where to next love?" She then replied in the comments section, "Sa mga matataas na altitude." (They went next to Bolivia.)

On a serious note, Ellen addressed one of the comments in her other post about altitude sickness: "It's different for everyone.. and the pills dont work for everyone too. I didnt really get hit bad."

She added, "But Derek felt better after having some oxygen. A little migraines here and there. All i can say is.. you just have to go thru it and wait for it to pass. Prayers and patience lang talaga.. i guess its part of the journey and the price to pay to see the beautiful sights. Meron talagang kapalit. Ganon lang. worth it naman."

Clearly, Ellen wasn't just laughing at Derek's misfortune of getting hit by a altitude sickness. They are actually appreciating each other's sense of humor.
