White onions are making award-winning actress and chef Judy Ann Santos cry - and it's not because she's chopping them!
In her Instagram stories on August 22, the mom of three shared a series of photos of her getting emotional over puting sibuyas.
She said, "Sibuyas na puti! Nakakaloka ka! Dati kailangan muna kitang hiwain bago ako maluha.. Ngayon naiisip pa lang kita, naiiyak na ako sa presyo mo!"
In another story she shared a photo of her hugging the white onions, "Pero dahil kailangan kita kesa mas kailangan mo ko, huhug kita at nanamnamin kita bago kita iluto.. Importanteng namnamin ka bilang 550 ka per kilo! Kalerks!" she said.
Talent manager Noel Ferrer shared the actress' post on his Instagram account. He said, "Homemaker @officialjuday feels the crunch … paano pa kaya ang ibang mga kababayan natin!" Hidilyn Diaz sympathized with her ninang sa kasal, "Magtatanim na ako ng sibuyas."
Juday reposted Hidilyn's photo and said, "Yan inaanak! Ako una mong suki."

Today, August 23, Juday shared another story, still about the topic and addressing those who thought she was overacting. "Pasensya na. Hindi talaga ko maka-move on. Yung dati naman kasing 40 pesos per kilo, naging 550 na! Paano naman akong hindi magpapaka-OA! Paano na ang sisig!! Onion soup, onion rings, at kung anu-ano pa!"
Your emotions are valid, Juday! We are crying with you too. In a GMA report, gasoline prices are rising again after weeks of rollback. Even eggs and sugar prices are rising. What can homemakers like Juday do?
3 tipid tips for homemakers
Here are some tipid tips that we have compiled, because we're all in this together.
1. Buy only what's enough and needed
In this article, moms from the Smart Parenting Village shared that one way to cut down on expenses, especially since we are still recovering from a pandemic, is to buy just what you need. While this tip will ensure that there is enough stock for everyone, it also keeps you from food wastage.
2. Go directly to the palengke
Actress and mom Yasmien Kurdi recommends buying from the wet and dry market instead of groceries.
She also shared previously to buy packed vegetables. "Sabi nila nanggaling yun sa mga nasira nang veggies, [pero] pwede pa rin naman siya lutuin. Bumibili rin ako nun kasi minsan Php15 o Php10 lang isang balot," sabi ni Yasmien. Karaniwan, naka-pack na ang mga ito ayon sa ulam: repolyo, carrots, cauliflower, at sayote para sa chopsuey; mayroon din para sa ginisang sitaw at kalabasa, at iba pa."
3. Communicate with your partner about budgeting
Alfie Tulagan, a dad of two and member of the Smart Parenting Dad Squad who is also a financial advisor stressed how budgeting is important. "When the family sticks to the budget, it saves you from unnecessary expenses. It’s up to you what budgeting formula will you apply. It could be 50/30/20, 60/20/20 or 60/20/10/10."
He explained in a previous article, "These formulas have one thing in common: the bigger chunk goes to the basic household expenses (food, rent, gas electricity, water, clothing, etc.); the next one goes to savings and investment, and the remaining goes to personal or leisure expenses."
He added, "The more you talk about the money issue, the lesser it becomes a family issue in the future."
