Assunta De Rossi Can't Believe Her 'Miracle Baby' Just Turned 2: 'Is She Really Mine?'

Assunta de Rossi and her husband Jules Ledesma's daughter Fiore turned two years old on October 23, 2022, and they threw an under-the-sea party.

The celebration was attended by the couple's families and friends.

But Assunta still can't believe she got pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl they named Giulia Fiorentina Alessandra and now fondly call Fiore. She admitted in a recent Instagram post: "I still go, 'Did I make this? Is she really mine?'"

That's because the actress struggled for nearly 20 years to finally have a child with Jules, whom she married in December 2002 (civil rites) and in March 2004 (church wedding).

She had myoma and endometriosis, thus she and her husband had long accepted that she would have difficulty conceiving. Her younger sister and fellow actor Alessandra de Rossi even offered to be the surrogate of Assunta's baby (read here).

Still Assunta and Jules tried other ways to for her to get pregnant, like in vitro fertilization (IVF) in 2016, which proved unsuccessful.

Myoma, or uterine fibroids, are non-cancerous growths that develop in the wall of the uterus. Many women have myoma, but it often goes undetected with no symptoms. Myoma doesn’t usually get in the way of pregnancy.

On the other hand, endometriosis is a condition that may interfere with getting pregnant. The disorder causes the uterine lining, or endometrium, to grow outside the uterus, such as in the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It causes painful menstruation and damage to reproductive organs.

Assunta recalled in an interview with PEP.ph that getting pregnant came as a shock to her and her husband: "Not only did I conceive naturally, but it was also unplanned… it was like, ‘This is actually real! There is a life in my womb!’”

She said in the interview that she noticed missing her period on the day of her 37th birthday, February 26, 2020, while celebrating in the Amanpulo beach resort in Palawan. A week later, when she had returned home in Manila, she still didn't have her period, so she decided to see her ob-gyn.

Assunta’s ultrasound and blood tests came out positive, but she remained unconvinced she was pregnant. She admitted, “Hindi siya nag-sink in, to be honest. I just couldn’t believe it, kasi tanggap ko naman na hindi ako mabubuntis naturally because of my condition.”

In fact, she and her husband even discussed going abroad to find a fertility clinic if their second attempt at IVF failed that time in 2020.

But when Assunta went back to her ob-gyn for another scan, she heard "a soft heartbeat" that made her pregnancy real to her. She would meet what she calls her "miracle baby" on October 23, 2020.

Two years later today, the mom of one tells her unica hija, "Happy 2nd birthday to the light of our lives."
