Hooray! Disney+ is now available in the Philippines!
Finally, we can binge-watch our favorite Disney movies from childhood and more with our kids!
Story time: Last week, one of my closest mommy friends celebrated her birthday, and instead of getting her a tangible gift, we thought of giving her some me-time and more happy experiences with her family. But how?
Well, she is a huge Star Wars fan, and we thought a one-year subscription to Disney+ would be the perfect gift.
With her husband as our accomplice, she was able to 'unbox' her gift last night, and she said, it was one of the best birthday gifts ever!
"Disney is such a big part of my childhood, my marriage, and now my life as a mother," said Regina Layug Rosero, my dear friend who also writes for Smart Parenting.
She added, "I grew up on Disney princesses and talking animals, and I met my husband because of Star Wars. Now, with Disney+, we can share all of these experiences with our son."
All of us at Smart Parenting agree with her, and we couldn't help but feel so excited that finally, we could share with our kids all the Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Nat Geo, Star Wars movies, shows, and more.
7 Disney Plus PH picks of Smart Parenting editors
Here are the top 7 Disney+ picks of the Smart Parenting editorial team, which could also be 7 reasons why you should subscribe today.
1. Encanto (2021 animated film)
Imagine this family favorite movie will finally be playing non-stop in your living room! Romae Zen Arganda, Smart Parenting's community manager, is ecstatic to let her one-year-old daughter watch this movie. She said, "Love kasi ni baby ang song numbers sa movie!"

2. Cruella (2021 film)
This exclusive Disney+ movie follows the early days of one of the most notorious and fashionable villains of all time - Cruella de Vil from the book-turned-movie, 101 Dalmations.
For Angela Baylon, Smart Parenting's social media manager, this movie tops her list of Disney+ recommendations. She said, "If you love origin stories and a believer of always looking at the two sides of the coin, Cruella is a match! Plus, it's giving us a lot of girl boss vibes (just maybe a little bit too much of it)."
She added, "Parental Guidance is definitely advised!" Or, watch this during your me-time!
3. Mary Poppins (1964 film)
For Cherrie Julian, Smart Parenting's associate video director, looking through the list of Disney+ movies brings nostalgia. Her pick is the live action movie of Mary Poppins. "Why? One word - supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!" This mama said she's looking forward to watching this musical fantasy film about a magical nanny with her daughter Addie.
4. James and the Giant Peach (1996 film)
"This remains one of my fave animated movies of all time. It's based on Roald Dahl's book of the same title. The story, of a lonely boy who finds friendship in unlikely circumstances, is timeless and universal. It's also a visual feast and very entertaining," said Jocelyn Valle, Smart Parenting's SEO and senior staff writer.
5. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022 TV series)
Ronna Bonifacio, parenting editor of Smart Parenting and mom of three reveals, "My kids are big fans of Star Wars, well, because I am. Introducing your own fandom to your growing kids is definitely one of the joys of kids growing older."
She added, "We've watched and rewatched The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, so I can't wait to see Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi with them. But with the plethora of old shows we watched growing up available on Disney Plus, my family might just be scratching the surface with this universe–or shall I say galaxy far, far away."
6. Up (2009 film)
Who on earth doesn't love Russell, and lovebirds Carl and Ellie Fredricksen? Maybe only our kids who haven't seen this beautiful, beautiful film. Finally, we can watch this again and again, and ugly cry with our kids when Lolo Carl remembers his beloved Ellie.
7. The Walking Dead (2010 TV series)
Okay, this one is on me. Simply because if there's one thing that my husband and I love watching together (that will not make me fall asleep), it's zombies. Watch this, of course, when your little ones are already in bed. Watching TWD is like our kind of date night, and we love that at the core of this post-apocalyptic horror series is family.
Choosing our 7 picks, we are confident that a Disney+ annual subscription could also be the best Christmas gift you can give.
