The OG Encantadia Sang'gres: Where Are They Now?

Photos and videos capturing the nostalgic reunion of the four original stars of the fantasy series Encantadia on the Magpasikat segment of It's Showtime have been circulating on social media, and for all the right reasons.

It's magical to witness actors Iza Calzado, Diana Zubiri, Karylle, and Sunshine Dizon perform together on one stage after several years.

As one of the Encantadiks who used to tune in to watch the well-loved teleserye that aired on GMA back in 2015, I rewatched their comeback performance with my four-year-old daughter.

"Look, all of them have powers," I told my daughter, who admires Queen Elsa of Frozen.

"They were the Queen Elsas of my time," I added.

The Original Encantadia Sang'gres: Where Are They Now?

Most of the Sang'gres are now parents. Here's where they are now and what they are up to.

1. Iza Calzado Wintle as Amihan

We have been closely following this new mama, who got pregnant and delivered her first child in her 40s. Iza first met her husband, Ben Wintle, in 2011 at the launch of Esquire Magazine in Manila, where Iza was the host.

The couple got married in Coron, Palawan, on December 19, 2018, after a year of engagement. On January 26, 2023, they welcomed their first daughter, Deia Amihan, whom Iza named after her character in Encantadia.

Iza said during the interview that she's overjoyed with their reunion, "Kapag magkakasama kasi kami, feeling talaga namin may magic. Kasi mahal na mahal namin yung isa’t isa simula noon hanggang ngayon.”

2. Karylle as Alena

Karylle has been married to Sponge Cola frontman Yael Yuzon since 2014, after more than three years of dating.

This year, the couple made headlines when Karylle bought Yael a ticket for his first face-to-face Manila fan meet with Korean superstar Kim Seon-Ho. Yael, who is a big Seonhohada (a term used for members of the official Seon Ho fandom), was very happy with Karylle's gesture, making her win the coveted Most Supportive Wife award.

The 42-year-old It's Showtime host has been performing in various musicals, including the Manila run of The Sound of Music, and top-billed the Repertory Philippines production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'Carousel,' with Gian Magdangal. She has been actively supporting her husband's band, managing her KTV businesses, and has an upcoming movie shot in South Korea.

3. Sunshine Dizon as Pirena

After her role in Encantadia, a host of successful teleseryes followed, including Carlo J. Caparas' Bakekang and Impostora, where Sunshine reaped several Best Actress awards.

In 2022, Sunshine came clean with her health issues on Instagram, saying she has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, and other mental health conditions. She said she didn't want to be part of the stigma and advocated seeking professional help.

The 40-year-old actress is a single mother to two kids, Doreen, 12, and Anton, 11.

4. Diana Zubiri Smith as Danaya

Diana is now based in Australia with her husband, Andrew Smith, and their three kids, King, 14, Aliyah, 7, and Amira, 3. She has been actively vlogging on YouTube and creating content about their family adventures in the Land Down Under. After giving birth to her youngest child, Diana revealed that she experienced postpartum depression or PPD.

In a heartwarming video by the Philippine Entertainment Portal or PEP.ph, Diana surprised Iza, Karylle, and Sunshine with her presence.

When asked what made her decide to fly back to the Philippines to reunited with her co-stars, she said, "Napapayag ako dahil sa pamilya. Na-miss ko kayo. Na-miss kong mag-perform.”
