Hidilyn Diaz's Olympic Journey
Hidilyn's bid for a fifth win in the Summer Games concluded on Wednesday at the 2024 IWF World Cup, finishing 11th on 222kg after failing her final two clean-and-jerk attempts to match Filipino contender Elreen Ando's total.
Hidilyn first started competing at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008. Then she competed in the 2012 London Olympics, followed by the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she claimed silver. Her historic win happened at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she won the country's first Olympic gold medal.
Despite the unfortunate loss, Hidilyn shared in an interview that she will continue weightlifting, though she's uncertain about competing in the next Olympics.
"Right now, I have to enjoy the moment. I will pursue what I have started, training and serving our athletes in the future," she said, revealing her plans to open her own sports academy soon.
