The COVID-19 pandemic has made parents more anxious of their family’s safety, especially that of their children’s. Understandably, moms and dads have been hesitant to schedule check-ups, choosing to delay immunizations and well visits until things have calmed down.
But experts stress that keeping your kids updated with their vaccines is more important at this time. On the first episode of SmartParenting.com.ph’s How Po? titled "How To Protect Your Newborn", Dr. Faith Alcazaren Buenaventura, a pediatric specialist at Stratum Health Partners, emphasized that parents should start catching up on the vaccines that they missed during the enhanced community quarantine.
“We don’t want to delay it. Because the more you delay, the more vulnerable your child will be for vaccine-preventable diseases,” she says, adding that parents should talk to their child’s pediatricians and let them assess which vaccines to complete first.
If you’re worried that your babies need to start from scratch due to the missed vaccines, Dr. Alcazaren-Buenaventura assures that it won’t be the case.

“The responsibility is with the parent to seek out the completion of their vaccination. Kung nadelay man, pwedeng i-catch up. There is a catch up schedule. Hindi tayo mag-ba-back to zero,” she shares.
