Isabelle Daza is at it again, poking fun through her Instagram post captions. This time, she talks about the dilemma of naming a child with a recent post. “You never know how many people you dislike until you have to name your child” she begins her caption to presumably a current photo of herself on a yacht.
Isabelle Daza and husband Adrien Semblat are expecting their third child together and she is fast approaching her due date. No wonder she’s scrambling for a name.
She also says name recommendations are welcome through the same post, which many social media users and her own family and friends took seriously. Her mom 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz couldn’t help but agree with her daughter’s caption, saying “Hahahaha belle soo true not dislike more like … huwag na!!”
Gloria also said, “my favorite name LAVINIA... but if it’s a boy definitely not lavinio k”. Smooth move, we still have no clue if they’re having a boy or a girl! Isabelle and Adrien already have two sons, Baltie and Valentin.
Tips for naming your baby
When you’re naming your child, you know that feeling of constantly opening a search engine, sending name combinations to your group chat of your closest friends, and workshopping names with your partner, if you have one.
We can’t deny Isabelle’s comment, that thinking of your child’s name may force you to become honest with how you feel about certain people in your life. You could have what feels like the perfect name only to remember that it reminds you of someone you wouldn’t exactly call your favorite person.
Here are some tips for naming your baby:
1. Check what their initials might be.
A previous Smart Parenting article explains this well: You want to give your son a manly name like Thaddeus Alexis Enriquez but have you considered that his initials would be TAE.
2. Think like a child.
The same article shared that a parent who wanted to name their son Logan asked for a second name by crowdsourcing and the parent-to-be got suggestions like “Eat Logan”, “Tino Logan” , “It Logan”, “Mark Logan” and “Beth Logan”. So to save your child from the worst nicknames, try it yourself and see if you could give that name a bad pun.

3. Use it to order coffee.
This one is quite easy to do. Next time you order a drink, give the name on the top of your list to the barista and see if you like the way it sounds.
4. As with everything, Google it.
See what comes up in the search results! Sometimes names that sound beautiful to us could mean something else entirely in another language. You’re lucky if it’s just something completely unrelated to a name, but what if it means something lewd or unpleasant, like ‘Willy’ as a common slang for ‘penis’?
5. Don’t forget to include your child’s middle name and surname.
I once thought I had the perfect name for our second son because it was short, it sounded guwapo, and it could pass for a football star’s name. I chose the name Andreas, only for my husband to remind me that our family name is Bonifacio. Which would have made our son Andreas Bonifacio. Maybe in other parts of the globe that would have sounded perfectly fine, but in the Philippines? He would be branded as a Katipunero from birth.
6. Yell it out.
If you have older kids, you’ll surely understand this tip. See what it might sound like if you’re trying to call your child’s attention while you’re in public. “Where are you going, Ava Harper?” Try it with their siblings’ names too: “Liam, Alex, and Ava! It’s time to go!”
