Iza Calzado is always thankful for the gift of motherhod, and takes the chance to express her gratitude whenever she can, like in her Women's Day post last March. The 41-year-old actress wrote a profound message on Instagram about the divine power within mothers and women. She also reminisced the sense of strength and connection she felt while carrying her only daughter, Deia Amihan.

Iza Calzado on what changed in her life since birthing Deia

In an exclusive interview with Cosmo, the actress opened up about recalibrating her priorities since she became a mom. "[There are] a lot of things that I would just casually say yes to before because I had all the time in the world, but I can't now. I will really have to choose," Iza shared in an interview.

She added, "Deia’s bedtime is really quite precious for me, and I only really let go of it if there's work. I feel a little disappointed if I don't make it to bedtime. I was never rushing to go home at a certain time, even for my husband. [But now], a big chunk of my whole world revolves around Deia."

A year into parenthood, hands-on mom Iza has also built up personal aspirations for her daughter. More than anything, the actress said she wants Deia to grow up with compassion and look up to people with a strong sense of happiness and success in various aspects of their lives. "She has to look at people as people, beyond social status," said Iza.

She continued, "Even the one that does my nails, I look up to her—I find that she's very happy with her life. She's very good at what she does and is a happy and successful person. I want her to look up to people who are happy with who they are, and what they've accomplished with their lives. They could just be happy because they have a solid family."

In February, the celebrity mom threw a meaningful party for her daughter's first birthday called Dia de la Deia. The girls of Buklod Kalinga, an orphanage in Parañaque City, celebrated their birthdays along Deia in a joyful gathering filled with arts and crafts and dancing.

Iza explained that although Deia will have no recollection of the party when older, she can proudly share that they made the occasion extra special. "Giving back is something I’d like to teach Deia, and hopefully, she understands the kind of decisions [Ben and I] make. I want her to value a lot of these things and put emphasis on giving back because she is so blessed,” the actress said.

Iza Calzado had her baby Deia at 40 years old with her husband, British-Filipino businessman Ben Wintle.
