School season is already approaching, and we need to prepare for learning supplies with a mindset that the kids’ school will be home-based for the better part of the year.

Stocking up on supplies is good, but what learn-at-home materials do we really need? Here are some staples moms prepare to keep the kids learning.

What moms are buying for school and art supplies

Pens, sharpeners, erasers, and paper supplies are obvious, but make sure not to miss scissors, rulers, glue, tape, dry erase boards and markers.

Most moms we spoke to say that National Book Store is their go-to place for these supplies. It is now more convenient to shop as National Bookstore offers text-to-order and chat-to-shop and delivery services.

My family personally loves the Maped 2-hole sharpener for standard and jumbo-sized pencils, Maped scissors that have rounded tips for safety, and Elmer’s school glue gel because it is washable (crucial!).

One mom also said her best discovery was Muji’s pair of scissors. It was perfect for her toddler daughter’s small hands.

Art supplies are a must no matter what age. Keeping a good stash gives children a chance to create art through different modes.

Mommy Tippy makes sure she has her stash of Faber-Castell markers, pens, and pastels for their art activities.

Where can I buy books online?

If you need Filipino children’s books, Pumplepie Books and Happiness online shop has a well-curated selection of books for the young and the young at heart. They have books from different local publishers that promote Philippine culture and values.

Aklateria Atbp, is a Facebook group that accepts pre-order of imported textbooks, math manipulatives, and other learning materials. They cater to homeschooling families that need to buy their required books like Mystery of History and Apologia Exploring Creations. With the scarcity of such books from local distributors, this is one way to buy imported books while paying a much lower shipping fee.

Teaching supplies are essential, so you will have the right resources at home. Getting a printer is a must. We are using a printer, scanner, and copier in one machine by Brother. We have been using this for several years to print out worksheets, scan documents, and photocopying activity pages.

Click here a list of affordable printers for home use.

A laminating machine is nice to have. You need it if you need to preserve photos or documents. One mom says she has been loving the Quaff A3 Laminator that retails at Php4,200 but is on sale in Lazada at Php1,900, as of this writing.

You might need a ring binder, file folders, or storage containers to organize your supplies, finished projects, paper, equipment, and others. Office Warehouse is one shop you can check for inks, computer accessories, shelves, and other machines. They now deliver nationwide.
